Benan VII: He's Gone

An sms from Abang at 4.08pm:

Bekas Setiausaha Angkatan Muda KeADILan, Adlan Benan Omar meninggal dunia di rumahnya di Subang Jaya jam 4 petang sebentar tadi.

Innaaalillaaahi wa innaaailaihi raaaji 'uuun...

Kita kehilangan satu bintang yang sangat bersinar.

We will forever miss your lights, Ben.

Semoga Allah menempatkan Ben di sisi mereka yang soleh dan beriman, dan semoga roh beliau dicucuri rahmat.

Takziah, from the deepest of our soul and hearts, to the ever loving family and close friends.

We were told that Ben will be brought to Ampangan, Negeri Sembilan tonight for his burial tomorrow before solat Jumaat. Abg Din once told Abang & I that Ben has already made all the arrangments of how his 'memorial' would look like ~ solid timber antique doors and all.

Indeed a bright star is gone to his Creator. But his legacy remains.

I am deeply saddened by his passing.

My contact with Ben was largely due to our respective jobs. Leaving the shop-talk aside, and when we spoke on eveything else, you could tell that he was something else. He was, and will be, one of the most intelligent and purposeful chaps I will ever meet.

Shine on you crazy diamond! May you rest in peace.

I came across your blog while searching for updates on Ben's condition two or three days ago. He is indeed a remarkable man having led a remarkable life. This is really a huge loss. Al-Fatihah.

Met him during PPM 90' when we lost our match against MCKK. I was the 3rd speak. He gave his speech and sat down. I asked myself who could this gentleman be? I found that our over the next 10 years reading the papers. Remarkable individual.
