Lolling Tongue

Two days ago, Jabatan Arkitek invited us the technical people in the Unit to attend an introductory talk by the paint people, Cat TuanLaut. They (the TuanLaut) been around for quite a while, rupanya. Since the 50s, but started off as the biggest marine-paint in Singapore.

In Malaysia, their building-paints memang dah lama wujud, but they’ve not been competing big with other big players. So, they’ve remained relatively laidback with lower prices.

Just that… I really think that anybody who’s in charge to meet the public, officials or the corporates, especially so if you’re on the Marketing Managerial post who needs to be doing lots and lots of presentations and presentations, one needs to brush up on the pronunciation, to say the least.

Especially on the letter “r”s and "th"s… so that you don’t get “with this paint, you can dly-loll using the lolles” (with this paint, you can dry-roll using the rollers), “when the undercoat is not dly yet, you may get efflosen” (when the undercoat is not dry yet, you may get effluorescence”), "I like to ting dat everyting is in order" (I like to think that everything is in order), "if the wall klacks, it's mean that..." (if the wall cracks, it means that...), etc.

Aiyoh, pleetty, ehm, pretty annoying lah, Sir. With all due respect.

And it got to a very dangerous and uncomfortable point when someone from the Maintenance Unit asked,

“Mr.P, lagi satu soalan ya. Kalau kontraktor saya degil juga, dia cat juga topcoat kat dinding dalam walaupun sealer belum cukup kering, macam mana nak remedy cepat-cepat ya?”

Mr. P pun jawab, in a ‘baku’ and official tone (maklumlah, presenting to government officials mah):

“Kalau macam itu, kalau dalam belum kel*ng lagi, kontlaktor yew kena blah blah blah blah, loh….”

Alamak. We were all looking at each other. Tak bagusnya. Dan tak selesanya, kan?

And since it was a real big issue if the sealer’s still not dry and yet the topcoat’s been applied and so forth, the mentioning of “kalau tak kel*ng, aah” went on and on and on for quite a bit more. Ish.

Last-last, Abg Dinzja yang kat belakang aku, cuit bahu aku and whispered rather legibly, clearly mocking Mr.P, “…kalau kat lalam tak ke*ing, luar Mlayu loh…”.

The other architects around me punya la terkekek-kekek, breaking the uncomfortable atmospehere.

So, you know, if you’re dealing a lot with the public or officials and do quite a bit of presentation, please, please lah get your pronunciations polished up first. Especially if you’re considered a top-notch person in the organization. Very bahaya and embarrassing la wei.

And this goes through all boundaries... Melayu ka, Cina ka, Indian ka, Jawa ka.

And no pretentious British or American or Ozzie or Hongkie accent also while you’re at that too, please.

Papa Jahat

For someone who loathes listening to the radio or any mainstream songs, and only watches Indon Video clips on the TV and doesn’t even bat an eye over AF or American Idol or M’sian Idol programmes, so when Abang asked me last night, “Siapa nyanyi lagu Papa Jahat eh? Abang suka betul la lagu tu!”, I was like,

So here goes, to Abang tersayang.

Tu la, lengkali bawak-bawak la dengar EraHitz tu sekali sekala. Heh heh.

Oh, get this. He’s even considering in buying the album. Whoa, big step, tu! Nanti, among his exclusive collections of Iwan Fals, Sawung Jabo, Ebiet G. Ade, Frankie & Jane Silahatua, Bonnie Tyler, Uji Rashid, Emilia Contessa, Amanda Marshall, John Denver and a few hundred more names that are almost beyond me, akan terselit lah satu album baru yang hip ~ the Fabulous Cats.

‘Bang, maybe we should now call Adi Labu Labi just that ~ the Fabulous Cats. And you, Papa Jahat. Amacam? *grins*

Of Cats And Men

I actually jot something down on my hp while in Genting.

From the Star dated 19th of March, this Swedish Design Architect, Matthias Stahlbohm, spoke about the Swedes being highly inventive and creative when it comes to innovations:

“Just 100 years ago, we were a poor nation. We had to make the most out of what we had. A Democratic governing system that allows us to think critically has totally transformed the country in the last fifty years.

I wonder if those powers that be ever read the article.

We’re about to celebrate our 50-year independence ourselves, but have we risen even at par with them??? Even the once nuclearwar-torn Japanese have long left us far away behind.

Bila kita nak dapat kejar ni???

I mean, can’t “they” see, there must be something really really really wrong in the system somewhere that, even though we’re churning straight-A1s for SPM, but they seem to stop just at that lah, kot?

(For example, I heard that my alma-mater, with close to 500 SPM takers last year, had churned almost half of that getting straight As… and out of that, 90+ of them were 11A1 achievers!!!

Can you imagine the devastation of those yang dapat 10A1 1A2…. They’re probably at the 98th place instead of being the top 10! Sui-bloody-cidal, man.)

I salute those fighters who keep fighting for justice in their homeland, and in return gets no love back from the country they love their life for. Macam Abang’s comrades, to say the least.

Fifty years of Independence. Independence from what, I wonder??? Just admit it, deep down, kita semua masih lagi dijajah macam dijajah penjajah diktator.

Bertuah Adi, Labu & Labi. Hanya perlu jadi cute cats yang makan, beyak, tidur & dimanjakan…

Back Again

Aiiieyyyyyyyyyyy! Dah la satu setengah minggu tak check the 'net. Masuk office today, the 'net at the office pula has been offline for maintenance since Friday. Ni lah baru boleh online semula.

You know, I kinda HATE being away in places either so susah nak get the 'Net or simply too tied up to do other than work work work.

I missed my birthday alerts (belated birthdays to Zetty on the 19th, Nik the Arkitek & NVT's David Wang & PICO's Juen Yeo & UPHT's Nek Mah on the 21st,and Kak Dina on the 23rd... banyak nya birthdays!)...

My mail-boxes overloading with emails...

I missed posting my thots or my days on my blog...

and I missed reading my regular blogs!!!

Being away this time made me missed Kak Dina's book launch (sorry Kakak, Zunar had to miss your launch last minute. He had an adhoc meeting about the Machap-thingee... sigh)...

and made me missed Labu and Labi a lot, especially Labi, sidling up to me at every opportunity arises...

Had a bad throat infection + demam since Tuesday night the 20th, my third working night up in Genting . Masa tuuuuuuuuu la nak demam. Sorang-sorang dalam "bilik mati-akal" (the sempit room we got in Dunia Pertama Hotel up in Genting faces the airwell AND the OTHER rooms, ok. Cannot bukak bidai. Unless nak cari pasal and get posted around the netsphere in my pjs and undies), menggigil-gigil bawah the covers, air minum dah habis tapi tak larat nak bangun keluar pi tambah air kat water heater some 100m away from the room, body aching all over without orang nak urut-urut... kesiaaaaaaan i, kan.

I came back from Genting on Thursday noon, brains all squished from thinking buckets of questions for the Prestasi Tahap Kecemerlangan exams. Weird kan... aku (and Irfan, another architect) tak pernah ambil PTK tapi kena tolong gubal the questions for the lower grades.

(There were, prolly, 80 of us there, from 6 principles, i think. And there were 11 of us Architects/Technicals in the Architectural team/principle from 3 different Architectural departments).

A lot of them penggubals took leave on Friday the next day. But I had to come in for a while in the morning for the 9.30 and 11am meetings. I had to go see a doctor first that morning, at 8.30. Makin teruk sakit tekak, demam and selesema, seh. That's when the doc said I had a bad throat infection. Then, at 9am, Abang drove me to my office. Bloodyhell it took us an hour and 15 minutes (of an otherwise 20-minute journey) to my office, all because Tuan-tuan Polisi tutup jalan, apparently the whole week, for their 200-year celebration practise!

Good God, what d'ya guys do the whole Dataran thingee at Putrajaya for ah????!!!! Go THERE la, can or not??? Heiii.

And I went back home at 11am, pilot office tolong hantarkan. And tidur and tidur and tidur dengan Labu & Labi. Ahhh such bliss.

And aku tak tengok lagi citer Mukhsiiiiiinnnn!!!!

Ish banyaknya dalam kepala aku nak bletiaq... tapi kena stop sat. Nak check emails and catch-up with paper work.

Many many thanks for all the wishes for Adi... Alahmdulillah, he's doing purdy awright now!!! Will update, insyaAllah!

Adi’s been put off from the drip since yesterday at 3pm since Adi’s been eating and drinking quite well. Dr.Lum wanted to observe if Adi’s appetite would stay even without the drip, and she also need to test to see if Adi kena feline diabetes.

Eh, forgotten to ask her if Adi’s contracted FIV and panleukopenia juga. Boleh tak aku.

But I’ve printed an array of readings on cat-topics ~ panleukopenia, cat diabetes, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), cat’s stress & anxiety, traveling with cats…

So…if Adi’s okay by now, alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah! Cuma nak minta Dr.Lum tukarkan from hospital boarding to normal boarding. That’s half the cost, I tell you. Nak ambil dia petang karang pun, tak guna sebab esok nak kena hantar boarding semula. He’s gonna get stressed-out again due to the moving in and out of strange places. Kesian dia…

By the way, tomorrow after lunch, Abang & I are going back to Pendang to see Mak, and also Abang’s younger sister Kak Rose and her family, home for good from Oz. So, Labu & Labi’s gonna be boarded at the same place as Adi tomorrow morning. Kak Rose and family are touching down at Bayan Lepas 5 past midnight esok. So, we’re gonna drive straight there first, sambut dorang, baru balik Pendang sama-sama. I anticipate that tomorrow’s journey could only end at 3am. Aiyak.

We’ll leave Pendang by Friday after prayers, insyaAllah. I need that Saturday to kemas rumah, cuci baju, and get my books and notes all ready for the retreat at Genting Highlands from Sunday noon till Thursday.

I managed to gather some notes and books that I have at lunch. Penuh satu beg! Itu pun tak cukup lagi… gotta go to Midvalley after work to get the books. Ooh, ooh, gonna get my long-awaited books to read, too! Tapi, aaaaa, bila nak tengok Mukhsin niiiiii!!! (see my bro’s review on the movie here)

Gonna be hell of two weeks, this and the next. That said, it has been so since last week. So I’ll see you again, O Blog of Mine, on Saturday, insyaAllah! I gotta story to regale, thanks to Qisstina the Goboklama’s proposal based on the movie Mukhsin!!!

Adi, Warded

Adi at the vet hospital, with a drip on his right fore-arm, 11th March ‘07

I need to document this down.

Adi dah tak makan seminggu. Sejak Sabtu dia balik dari vet Bangi… 3/3/07.

Aku cuba suap c/d can food (priscription food) pun dia tak nak. I read from the internet that prescription food memang tak berapa sedap untuk kucing yang memilih makan macam Adi. Setin 6 kali ganda harga makanan the normal cat tinfood. Tapi, bila-bila berpeluang, si Labi akan gobble dengan lahapnya. That said, Labi tu memang pelahap budaknya. Kasi makan roti kaya pun dia mahu.

Makan the prescripted cat biscuits pun Adi tak nak. So I had to resort to giving him pet’s Nutrigel… a nutritious palatable chocolatey gel sebagai ganti supaya perut dia tak kosong nak makan ubat. Adi ada lima jenis ubat ~ antibiotics, ubat lawas kencing, ubat bengkak, ubat appetite, and Urinary Tract (UT) strengthener. Antibiotics tu, kena habiskan. UT pills tu, tak boleh makan more than 2 weeks in a row. Means, maximum by 16/3 je boleh makan UT pills.

Strange though… satu minggu kasi makan ubat, Adi tak juga kuat-kuat. Masih lemah-lemah; tak moh makan; but sangat kerap kencing. Risau….

Every morning I'd wake up at 5.45am, just to sit with Adi and belai-belai dia (I read that this could encourage him to eat and give him the will to improve health-wise), and I’d do the same after work. Before work and after work, I’d feed water to Adi using the syringe, takut dia dehydrated.

At one time, bila aku peluk Adi, badan dia ada fever tapi tapak kaki dia sejuk-sejuk. Bahagian pinggang/perut dia macam exert warmth… I suspect dia sakit kat bahagian tu. I’d make sure he won’t get stressed out with Labu and Labi… so, kalau siang-siang tu memang aku terpaksa kurung dia dalam guest room supaya Labu & Labi tak buat khianat ke Adi.

Last Saturday evening, however, I came back home from the office to find his vomit bersepah atas lantai, carrier and cadar katil. I suspect it was gastric juice sebab dia dah tepat seminggu tak makan. Tapi tak warna hijau, though. Dabbing with kitchen paper-towel, I turned the towel and saw tint of blood!!! Without wasting much time, aku terus ajak Abang bawa Adi ke vet hospital. Mujur Abang melayan walau dalam keletihan baru balik dari kerja.

At the hospital, a lady-doctor, Dr.Lum attended to Adi. Unlike the attending vet kat Bangi, Dr.Lum was very very gentle, which I really appreciated! Masa aku tolong keluarkan Adi dari carrier up to the examination table, I saw tears at the inside corners of Adi’s eyes. Dua kali aku kesat airmata Adi. Kesian! Aku tak pernah tengok kucing menangis sebelum ni…

After explaining to Dr.Lum on Adi’s recent history, Dr.Lum kata kena test darah Adi. Dia pelik kenapa vet bangi tak test his blood nor his batu karang. We weighed Adi, and Adi has plummeted from 5.4kg down to 4.7kg... mainly due to malnutrition and dehydration. And with that, Dr.Lum advised that Adi should be warded so that she could administer drips and antibiotics to Adi and put Adi under observation.

I went home with Abang, feeling so restless. How much more would the bill be this time?

And what if Adi really is sakit teruk this time? Do we need to put him to sleep??? Argh… :"(

Malam at 9.40, Dr.Lum called back, informing me that result blood test dah keluar: liver& kidney Adi tak sihat. Looks like as if ada blood infection jugak. White cell count Adi tinggi ~ biasanya max 11,tapi Adi punya 35plus!!! Doc nak do more tests to see if Adi has feline leukemia or feline AIDS.

Eiii rasa ralat sangat masa tu, coz vet Bangi tak test darah! Liver tak sihat tapi ubat sampai 5 jenis... entah sesuai entah tidak!

The next morning, soon after Abang left for work, I sms-ed my cousin the vet, Niza, to see what she thought of Adi’s predicament.

She said, “Probably panleukopenia agaknya kak lin. Memang tx very costly, prognosis very poor. Takpelah kak lin, buat yang terbaik utk adi ok…"

I cried and cried and cried. I couldn’t pass by the guest room at all. I mean, not that this is my first experience dealing with Adi sakit teruk, tapi, alahai…. I fought for that damn cat, ok. I fought to bela him dulu. Umi tak suka, Ayah tak suka, but I fought for him and every night I took him into the bedroom to sleep with me and Da. Bila dah kahwin, baru UmiAyah sayang and adorekan Adi… maybe because Adi reminds them of me agaknya.

So, you know, I was really sad for Adi. Rasa helpless. He’s only 3 years old. And the nicest thing about having Labu & Labi around is that, they came up to me and licked my nose and my tears dry and lay down beside me, as if asking me to stop crying….

That late morning, however, the vet called back, informing me that Adi’s kidneys are ok, alhamdulillah! Cuma ada traces of nanah in the urine, means bladder dia quite teruk. Maybe tu yg sebabkan liver dia sakit?

At noon, Abang came back for lunch and to visit Adi. Adi lit up when he saw me! And he has the drip attached to his forearm.

Doc explained that Adi’s white cells are high; albumin is zero ~ means liver not processing any protein to be turned into albumin, and lack of albumin would make the darah very cair, and darah too cair would be very dangerous to Adi. Doc observed that Adi banyak minum air, and equivalently banyak juga kencing. Ultrascan showed Adi’s bladder ada tompok2 putih, and Doc wanted to treat him with antibiotics.

However, Adi dah mula makan sikit. Dia makan Whiskas soft-food. Doc kata just to whet his appetite. Once dah okay, kena revert back to the prescription food.

Doc also explained that bladder infection and batu karang can be caused by many factors ~ food, stress levels, etc. Tak kerap minum air pun, kadang-kadang due to as simple as tukar bekas air.

I called up the vet this morning, but Dr.Lum was not around. I really hope she would call me back this noon. Most probably that hari ni tak boleh lawat Adi coz Abang has a really really tight deadline.

I also surfed the net on feline AIDS (here and here) and feline leukemia (or panleukopenia, here and here). Adi has almost all of the symptoms, alright.

And when I read “And Now A Note On Your Pet's General Good Health”, Adi has six out of the eight early signs that need the vet consultation.

Sigh. If only I read more. I'm sorry, Adi...

I miss him, all healthy and spunky... Adi get well soon, ok...?

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Just received a confirmation letter that I’ll be joining others for a retreat in the highlands untuk buat soalan from 18th till 22nd of this month.

I heard that the retreat would be grueling and no fun.

Kalau soalan kena reject, kena buat lagi dan lagi dan lagi. Dan buat soalan ada syarat-syarat, ada cara-caranya.

New-timers like me are supposed to be going for crash courses first on how to make questions before any retreat. Maybe there will be one in the beginning, kot.

Not really looking forward to this. I’ll miss my cats. And I know definitely for sure that Abang will miss me 'coz he'll be needing my help to care for the cats. Heh heh.

Some more, Kak Dina’s invitation-only book launch would be on the 21st, and looks like Abang would have to go alone (of courselah I’m ‘parked’ under 'Press’ tumpang nama Abang, heh).

Abang MUST go, MUST get a copy of the book and signed by Kak Dina for me, MUST cover the event for his paper for me, and eventually MUST in return sell Kak Dina his book pulak. Hahahaha.

Weh, apart from growing up reading Amir Muhammad’s columns and reviews, back then I literally grew up waiting for Mondays that Dina’s Dalca would be on NST, woh!

Dengan Amir Muhammad aku pernah dengan tak disangka-sangka lawan national elocution masa A-Levels dulu (of course lah aku kalah dengan dia. Duh!). So, you know, getting a personal invitation to Kak Dina’s book launch and eventually getting her book personally signed is apparently a huge thing for me, woh.

Even masa aku amek gambar dengan Pak Lah masa kat U.K dulu pun can't match up close as rasa se-best gini. That was in 1995 though, during my reign as the Ketua Biro Penerbitan UMNO Edinburgh and we had a perjumpaan UMNO UK-Eire in Lancaster with Pak Lah as the V.I.P (imagine that, me, ahli UMNO, Ketua Biro lagi! Hehe). And who would’ve thought he’ll end up being the next PM kan?

I really respect the likes of Kak Dina, Amir Muhammad, Adibah Noor, Adlin Aman Ramlie and even bloggers like Tok Rimau, SiNagaNaga and the venerable Kak Elida who feel that their works transcend no boundaries ~ that no religion, race or political beliefs could and would stop their artistry rights and jeopardize their periuk nasik and hence their works should be enjoyed by everyone and I mean everyone regardless.

So, it’s just too bad that fate has it that I’m married to an activist (and a great man he is, too!) and evidently with hard-facts and proof I get to know the dirty deeds done by any of your favourite elected administrators and idols (or your dads or uncles or aunts or brothers or sisters or cats), and with that fact you either feel threatened and cannot fren-fren wimme anymore or even regard me as your uncool-worthy fans or think that my presence would jeopardize your rezki and opportunities in life, OR perhaps you takut I would sermonize you and embarrass you in your crowded crowds (which of course I would not do and never would)… then, nemain lah. I tak rugi apa, you. You je rugi tak dapat fren-fren dengan orang macam I and kawan-kawan I, heh heh.

One word for you, though: Pengecut, pfbthfbthfbth.

Life's Lessons

It’s 7.47pm, and I am still at the office meneman my E.O finishing-up the powerpoint presentation for tomorrow’s meeting.

Had a whole-day meeting and site visits in Putrajaya and Jalan Duta till 4pm today, and I am beat. So so in need of a shower and my cats. Tak sabar nak balik!

Nevertheless, found this in my inbox. I’ve read it way back before, and still think the lessons are funny but so true! So, read on!

A junior manager, a senior manager and their boss are on their way to a meeting. On their way through a park, they come across a wonder lamp. They rub the lamp and a ghost appears.

The ghost says, "Normally, one is granted three wishes but as you are three, I will allow one wish each.

So the eager senior manager shouted, "I want the first wish. I want to be in the Bahamas, on a fast boat and have no worries." Pfufffff, and he was gone.

Now the junior manager could not keep quiet and shouted "I want to be In Florida with beautiful girls, plenty of food and cocktails." Pfufffff, and he was also gone.

The boss calmly said, "I want these two idiots back in the office after lunch at 12.35pm."

Standing in front of a shredder with a piece of paper in his hand.

"Listen," said the CEO, "this is a very sensitive and important
document, and my secretary has left. Can you make this thing work?"

"Certainly," said the young executive.

He turned the machine on, inserted the paper, and pressed the start button.

"Excellent, excellent!" said the CEO as his paper disappeared inside the shredder machine. "I just need one copy."

An American and a Japanese were sitting on the plane on the way to LA when the American turned to the Japanese and asked, "What kind of -ese are you?"

The Japanese confused, replied, "Sorry but I don't understand what you mean."

The American repeated, "What kind of -ese are you?"

Again, the Japanese was confused over his question.

The American, now irritated, then yelled, "What kind of -ese are you .... Are you a Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc......???"

The Japanese then replied, "Oh, I am a Japanese."

A while later the Japanese turned to the American and asked what kind of 'key' was he.

The American, frustrated, yelled, "What do you mean what kind of -kee' am I ?!"

The Japanese said, "Are you a Yankee, donkee, or monkee?"

There were these 4 guys, a Russian, a German, an American and a French, who found this small genie bottle. When they rubbed the bottle, a genie appeared.

Thankful that the 4 guys had released him out of the bottle,

He said, "Next to you all are 4 swimming pools, I will give each of you A wish. When you run towards the pool and jump, you shout what you want the pool of water to become, then your wish will come true."

The French wanted to start. He ran towards the pool, jumped and shouted"WINE".

The pool immediately changed into a pool of wine. The frenchman was so happy swimming and drinking from the pool.

Next is the Russian's turn, he did the same and shouted, "VODKA" and immersed himself into a pool of vodka.

The German was next and he jumped and shouted, "BEER". He was so contented with his beer pool.

The last is the American. He was running towards the pool when suddenly he steps on a banana peel. He slipped towards the pool and shouted,"SHIT!!!!!!!........."

The organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was in charge. Each organ took a turn to speak up:

Brain......... I should be in charge because I run all body functions.

Blood........ I should be in charge because I circulate oxygen for the brain.

Stomach... I should be in charge because I process food to the brain.

Legs......... I should be in charge because I take the brain where it wants to go.

Eyes......... I should be in charge because I let the brain see where it's going.

Asshole.....I should be in charge because I get rid of your waste.

All the other parts laughed so hard and this made the asshole very mad.

To prove his point, the asshole immediately slammed tightly closed and stayed that way for 6 days, refusing to rid the body of any waste whatsoever.

Day 1 - Brain got a terrible headache and cried out for relief
Day 2 - Stomach got bloated and began to ache terribly
Day 3 - Legs got cramps and became unstable
Day 4 - Eyes became watery and vision became blurred
Day 5 - Blood became toxic and poisoned the body
Day 6 -The other organs agreed to let the asshole be in charge.

Always Expect The Un-Expected

Purdy good eh?

A Good Saturday: Evening

Later in the evening, it rained so heavily. Aiyak there goes my swimming session lah kan. But anyway, we were supposed to be going for a gamelan show at 8.30pm at KLPac, all eleven of us, and was pretty worried kalau KL banjir.

Alhamdulillah it didn’t. KL tak banjir, alhamdulillah, and all of us arrived pretty early since semua orang ingat KL will banjir and thus semua orang bertolak dari rumah rather early. “Us” were me, Abang, Farhi, Said, Linda, Abg Yuz my cousin, Cik An my auntie, Maria and 3 other young friends.

Farhi, Abg Yuz and I had attended Rhythm In Bronze (RIB) gamelan shows before… all thanks to a friend, Y, who introduced to me some time 4 years back when RIB did ‘Laras Gong’ in Actor’s Studio Bangsar.

Back then, ‘Laras Gong’ was a double whammer~ I attended the show twice in the same week!!! The first with Y, the second with my siblings and Abg Yuz.

‘Laras Gong’ was a set of infused arrangements ~ R&B, Jazz, Chinese operatic but with Malay lyrics, Chinese drums, etc… and all in gamelan! And to see how passionate and fun the RIB players were (which mostly are ladies, with only two guys on the gendang/rebana and guitar) ~ they smiled to each other when they played, communicated with facial expressions and with their eyes, they danced, they laughed ~ I never saw any other gamelan quite the same after RIB.

‘Laras Gong’ just rocks to a tee, lah!

Then I saw RIB’s ‘Wujud Antara’ at Philharmonic in 2004… all regal and formal. It was almost like Laras Gong, but more formal and hence a little bit less fun.

I missed RIB’s previous ‘Monkey Business’. So I gather I just cannot miss their show this time… 'Alin Alih PungGong'.

We did not know what to expect other than the show being different and fun-ner than the typical gamelan. This time it was directed by the infamous actor Nam Ron, and have a team of other known professionals working in the productions, too ~ Bayu Utomo Radjikin for the costumes, Mac Chan as the lighting designer and Yasmin Ahmad constributed to the words of one of the songs, to name a few.

The set-up was very theatrical-like ~ paper brollies hanging mid-air in the center of the room, gamelan equipments in a circle, percussionists tucked in one corner, lightings macam PGL-Musical… and hello, Nam Ron sitting behind our row, gauging the audience since it was the last performance night!

Apa lagi, aku pun dengan tak malu mintak Nam Ron sign autograph. Sejak dah kahwin ni yang aku tak malu, by the way. Dulu sebelum kahwin, aku always segan nak minta autograph orang, hehe.

And the show was fun! Of course they could actually do away with the theme ~ Perempuan. But I reckon this time the fusion-theme was theatrical and that they were experimenting how far the musicians could go from just being musicians. So that night, the ladies got away from their usual all-black attire and instead had themselves donned in see-through laced kebaya (which is very Bayu Utomo, by the way) and acted and mimed and sang and danced intermittently.

And the ironic about the gamelan arrangements was that, none of it was by a Malay or Indon! (or maybe there was a couple of Indons)

I tell you, best giler! Abang yang not a theater or musical buff pun suka giler.

And guess who else we met there… Yasmin Ahmad herself!!!!

Aiyoh, dengan tidak berlengah lagi, soon after the show, I ran towards her and minta autograph dia and then ramai-ramai took a photo with her. Her presence was so very inspiring lah! She just has that aura, you know.

And I just don’t get lah these people like Kak Min and Nam Ron who are so famous and well-known and successful but yet so very friendly and humble and approachable… ish, maybe sebab tu lah aku not that famous and well-known and successful coz I may not turn out to be that friendly and humble and approachable after all, hehehe.

Oh did I mention that 'tis was the only one time I managed to drag Abang away from his Saturday-night EPL football match when his favorite team was playing a crucial game live on TV??? Kalau tak kerana tiket tu berbayar, pasti aku kena pi sorang-sorang dah, hehehe. I tell you I was more anxious about him enjoying the show more than anything!!! And mujur ManU menang 1-0 against Liverpool, else don’t think he would be talking to me still, heh heh.

Ahhh, what a really nice closing to a Saturday, innit? First time to a theater with my husband along with some family members, meeting inspiring individuals, great show, and a winning match.

Farhi, Kak Yasmin Ahmad, Alin Ponggong, Abang Yuz. (Behind Farhi was Namron whom kami terlupa nak ajak ambil gambar sekali, in the midst of excitement dapat jumpa Kak Min vis-a-vis!)

By the way, jom kita ramai-ramai tengok 'Mukhsin', jom? Opening Thursday the 8th March. Can’t wait. “Everyone has a first love story to tell”. And mine was indeed almost like 'Mukhsin'.

And I still keep this message:

much fondness and rememberance.

A Good Saturday: Day

It was a really good day, last Saturday.

After breakfast, we went to see Ba & Ma at Ayah Dan’s house in SuRaDa, along with the much requested wedding photos of ours that Ba&Ma had been pestering us to print and frame for them. Hak-ah, gambar-gambar Disember 2005, zaman tok kadok dulu. Tapi tak pa, sebab belum ada baby lagi, maka belum jatuh kategori basi lagi. Heh heh. And as long as they are both really happy to get the 4Rs and 8R print-outs, then, okay lah tu kan?

At mid-day after SuRaDa, we went to fetch Adi at the vet Bangi, which is only nearby. Adi was really happy to see us, alright. The vet people handed over his special food (harga 4 kali ganda dari harga catfood biasa), and five types of medication!!! Ubat for urinary tract, ubat selera makan, antibiotics, ubat mudah kencing and ubat bengkak. Aiyoh. Mujur aku dah belajar cara-cara nak kasi kucing makan ubat. Kalau tak, jenuh juga nak hancur-hancurkan tiap-tiap ubat dalam air susu and then suap dia guna syringe.

In the car, on the way from Bangi to Cheras, Adi kencing and kencing and kencing… mahu empat kali dalam carrier tu. Mujur ada paper… everytime dia pee, aku lapis. And he didn’t like being stuffed in the box with his pee either, so he kept pawing the carrier door wanting to get out.

(Tiba-tiba terdengar Friends' Phoebe singing "Smelly-cat... smelllly cat...")

At the apartment, Abang terus raced Adi & the carrier into the guest bathroom before the other kucing-kucing dapat hidu bau Adi. Lepas cuci both Adi and the carrier, I placed Adi in the guest room, complete with his own tempat makan minum and ‘yak dia.

While Abang went out to meet his friend, I nursed Adi and observed all three cats together closely ~ Adi, being sick, tak berapa garang sangat whenever Labi came over slowly to sniff-out on him but never got to get too near to Adi coz Adi would still growl at him. Labi can be in the same room as Adi, golek-golek kiut atas lantai depan Adi, naik atas katil, makan makanan Adi, panjat sana panjat sini; tapi Labu pula ~ ini budak memang garang dan pengecut tapi over-possesive and territorial, so, cannot be in the same room with Adi for far too long. So Labu ended up duduk kat tepi pintu bilik, sniffing from outside, peering through at times, occasionally caught Adi’s eyes watching him with contempt.

Adi makan sikit sangat. He’s still very weak. But at least he’s peeing and pooing quite normally, alhamdulillah. I had to feed him some nutritional food-paste before every medication. But all in all, Adi’s a-okay, even though he’s still looking quite depressed and weak. Am gonna give him maybe 5 days… kalau dia dah mula nak main-main tu, insyaAllah dah okay lah tu.

And Abang&I would only make our decision by then, nak hantar Adi balik ke Bangi semula ke tak.

Kucing dan Ikan Singgang

Went to see Adi at the Bangi vet two nights ago. Boy was he happy to see me! Dia nampak je aku masuk pintu, terus dia panggil, “Wweeeh…”, dan sua muka at the cage for me to gosok-gosok and cium ubun-ubun dia.

Alah, kesian Adi. He never had to sleep above his wiwi tray before, but had to at the vet. They inserted a tube/catheter to his pundi kencing and he just have to pee down to the tray and then the vet will check whether his pee ok ke tak.

Manja betul dia malam tu. Dah lama dia tak manja macam tu. Biasanya kalau aku dah gosok-gosok dan cium-cium kepala dia lama-lama, dia mesti nak menggigit. Kali ni, tak langsung. Kesian dia.

I asked the vet if he dah ‘yak at all (coz he hasn’t been since Friday, mind you). Vet kata tak lagi, and tak pe, biasa la kalau kena batu karang dia tak ‘yak sebab tak makan and we’ve been giving him soft food laadeeda. Aku macam….. musykil, la. But I left it at that.

Nearby, there was a cat who looked exactly like Adi, tapi tengah pengsan coz vet baru masukkan catheter. I asked the vet naper dengan kucing tu. She said, same case. Batu karang. Just that it’s recurring back after 3 years. Sebab the owner kasi dia makan balik Wh!sk@s and Fr!sk!3s la, she said. Those two catfood ada banyak garam and magnesium, so over a period of time some cats can get batu karang, especially yang kurang minum macam Adi.

I was like, holycat, man. That’s the cheapest and most easiest catfood I could get! A normal packet of that cost RM14, but IAMs or ScienceDiet (both are really really good healthy catfood) cost almost double that. Aiiieeeey.

And then the vet citer lagi yang cats sebenarnya tak leh makan ikan semata-mata, apatah lagi yang direbus dengan air garam. Sebab ikan ada parasite and would bertindakbalas in their colon and over a period of time would make them constipated and taik keras, while the garam would obviously encourage batu karang.

And wham! like batu besar jatuh atas kepala aku, I knew by then how Adi dapat sakit tak leh ‘yak and batu karang.

Coz we lovingly feed him fresh fish yang direbus dengan air garam and asam keping (a.k.a ikan singgang), everyday and almost everytime!!!! Si Adi pulak memang suka ikan rebus tu…sampai dia tak heran dengan catbiscuits! In fact everytime lepas kami rebus the ikan, he would jilat air rebusan sampai habis!

Lepas ke vet, terus singgah rumah jenguk Umi Ayah. Dah dua minggu tak jenguk… teruk aku ni, kan.

Told Umi Ayah about Adi and the possibility that our endearing love to him by giving him his favourite ikan singgang as his staple food was what made him fall sick (besides poket aku yang berlobang hangus habis hancus!!!). And the vet also advised to give Adi a special catfood for the next 6mths to a year. Back at the vet I saw the packet yang depa dah buka. Harga RM55/packet, you!!! MATIEEYYYY aku. Die die die.

While I was still at UmiAyah’s, the vet called to confirm that Adi tengah constipated sebab perut dia ada benda keras (taik tak keluar) and that she wanted to inform/warn me that there’ll be extra charge with the constipation treatment. *Sigh* I can’t leave Adi sick, kan? So of course lah aku kata “Yes, sure doctor. Thank you for informing, ya?”.

Semalam petang I called the vet up and she told me yang Adi dah ‘yak and beginning to makan makanan keras dah. Alhamdulillah.

Ni aku baru call the vet again, and they said Adi dah leh discharge, yeay! And it cost ¼ of my pay for the treatment. Adui. Naper la pet treatment tak de civil servant rate eh. Heh2. Tak pe lah, sayang punya pasal.

Moral of the story???

Entah. Adi was my first cat. Ibarat orang jaga first child, kan. Dari situlah belajar macam-macam. Never, never again ikan singgang for cats, no matter how berkejar-kejar and berlari-lari they’ll be at the smell of it. Never.

Ni sekarang nak kena fikir pula macam mana nak buat Adi, Labu & Labi comfortable at the apartment when both Adi and Labu are not at all on friendly terms.

And oh ya, for heaven's sake, naper laaaaaaaaaaa company-company Wh!sk@s and Fr!sk!3s tak terus buat catfood yang healthy ah??? Macam ada konspirasi dengan Vets worldwide je. Eiii benci.
