Doa Buat Abang Bitee

I actually put this piece together on the 20th Dec. 2006, the day Abang Bitee was supposed to be under the knife, thinking that I would amuse him with my stories of him once he's better. Unfortunately...

Kak Myra, isteri Abg Bitee atau nama betul beliau Saiful Bahari Taib a.k.a SBT, sms aku pagi tadi.

Abg Bitee ni senior aku masa MRSM Jasin.

Eh, tapi nak ikutkan, dia satu batch dengan aku... batch '86, walaupun masa tu aku masuk Form 1 dan dia masuk Form 4.

Masa tu, MRSM Jasin masih belum ambil kemasukan Form 4 secara besar-besaran. Tapi batch aku lah 'batch bongsu' MRSM: the last Form 1 batch of the school.

That day, ada empat orang Form 4 baru... Abg Bitee antara seorangnya. Dan seorang budak Form 1 yang terlewat masuk ... aku. Tarikh masuk: 31 Mac 1986. Twenty years ago.

Aku pun tak pasti kenapa aku boleh teringat dia je dalam kalangan empat orang F4 baru tu. Mungkin masa menunggu mak ayah kami diberi taklimat di Bilik Guru, aku dok menunggu kat luar di Main Porch dengan adik-adik (masa tu Sherli umur 6 thn; Farhi 4 thn; Udi 2 thn). Aku duduk at one end of the porch sambil pangku Udi yang tertidur; while Abg Bitee was waiting at the other end, menyandar against a parked motorbike, looking the other way.

I only remember that vision for that particular day.

Tah macam mana, masa aku naik Form 2, dari kejauhan aku mula 'admire' dia. Aku pun tak berapa ingat kenapa. Kira macam first teenage crush aku lah. Rupa-rupanya, pada waktu yang sama, tah kenapa tetiba saham Abg Bitee naik... ramai betul bebudak pompuan admire dia!

Ish, kalau nak ingat-ingatkan balik how gedik I was being his so-called 'secret admirer', aku pun naik geli. Tapi aku ingat lagi, somehow or rather, all the girls in my batch knew who my 'abang' was. Masa tu, biasa la... masing-masing ada 'abang' la, balak la, pet-sis la, pet-bro la. Sapa-sapa yang pernah dok asrama akan tahu la betapa scandalousnya hidup kat hostel... tapi bessssstttt woh!!! So, I never had to compete with anybody in my batch other than sorang dua in other batches. Kindalike Sisterhood-thingee la. Can share all other things, but not 'abang' or balak or pet-sis or pet-bro, unless with consent!

We even named our 'admirees' with nicknames... such as AKoJe lah (Abang Kopek Jerawat - I think this guy dah pretty much 'The It' in his profession and pretty much hemsemm-er now. Nama betul dia? Azlee *grins*), Y lah, Zack lah, Ayaq Nyok lah, APen lah (Abang Pendek), and the list goes on.

Nick Abg Bitee? We named him "Barry" from the nama kimia "Barium". Eh serious aku dah lupa macam mana this name was picked. I think ada kena-mengena dengan us, having to float classes for every subject (sebab MRSM dulu kurang bilik darjah) hence exchanging class with him masa kat Lab -- kelas dia keluar from subjek Kimia, kelas kami masuk pula for other core subjects.

Tah macam mana, end of Abg Bitee's Fifth Form, dia dapat tahu yang aku ni lah budak tergedik yang minatz dia. Satu hari, dia kasi aku note, complete with my IC number on it!!! Mau tak termenjerit aku! Menjerit debar and menjerit malu, gitu. Aku pun tak faham naper dalam kegedikan aku masa tu masih ada tau rasa malu.

(Even as I’m writing this, I’m quite amazed myself that I actually can still remember his IC number… 1*2**54!!! Omygawd! I can’t be so silly into him dulu, can I???!)

Anyways.

Aku ingat lagi, one day masa Abg Bitee was sitting for one of his SPM papers (Geography, I think), he was called out of the Dewan to be informed that his father had passed away. My kakak-kakak senior told me how devastated he was... menangis-nangis sambil cuba habiskan paper, and then went back home directly after, but came back at noon for the afternoon sitting.

Gosh, I suppose itulah dugaan pertama besar dalam hidup dia...

And I remembered one part of his jottings in my autograph book. He said, “Jangan lupa jaga badan nanti tak da balak yang nak…”. Har dee har.

Nevertheless, masa aku naik Form 3, Abg Bitee masuk buat Diploma Integrasi Senibina di UTM Skudai. Aku tak tahu sebenarnya that he was there... but one day, during lunch time kat Dewan Makan, someone handed me a letter from Skudai. I opened up the letter on the spot and wah, termenjerit lagi aku masa tu! Surat dari Bitee!!!

Kecoh antara the girls batch aku and seniors yang aku dapat surat dari Bitee! Maklumlah, budak dompot macam aku ni dapat surat daripada "The Most Popular Guy Batch '83/'86 in 1987"!!! Haaa, hebat, kan? hahahaha.

Kebetulan juga pada tahun tu, this same budak dompot dah manage to acquire a couple of "secret admirers" juga... apa lagi, muka cuak je diorang bila nampak aku happy semacam. heh heh heh.

Ish, tersengih-sengih lebar aku sekarang ni. Indahnya waktu zaman sekolah, I tell you...

Maka, bermula lah penulisan surat antara aku dengan Abg Bitee. Abg Bitee siap hantar aku pamphlet dari UTM Skudai about his course. He regaled me stories of how difficult the course was (daripada 30+ orang, jadi tinggal berapa kerat je); duduk rumah sewa, etc.

So, ladies & gentlemen, I could say that it was Abg Bitee who first exposed me to Architecture and inspired me to take up the course.

We wrote to each other dari aku Form 3 kat MRSM Jasin sampailah aku buat 1st Year A-Levels di Cheras. Ahh, the old mode of communication. Dulu tak da hp, mah. Apatah lagi email. APATAH LAGI blog. heh. But mind you during that period, we never spoke to each other even on the phone, let alone keluar jumpa ramai-ramai, you know!

Masa Abg Bitee graduated, he sent me a photo, him donning a baju melayu hitam with his sijil at hand. I can still remember that photo. Heck, I still keep that photo! Cuma nak cari kat mana je. But to this very day, I’m still not sure why he sent me the photo… I presume he wanted to encourage me to achieve what he’s just achieved, kot. Of course back then instead of feeling encouraged, aku rasa perasan sebab dia kasi aku gambar dia tanpa diminta…hahahaha.

Tapi lepas Abg Bitee graduated from his diploma, we stopped writing altogether. Aku pun dah tak ingat kenapa. Maybe sebab aku pun dah sibuk dengan studies and social life.

But whaddya know... we managed to meet again during his visit to Edinburgh, spring of '94. He was one of the 12 friends of my housemate's mate from Canterbury yang datang berjalan naik Scotland. Obviously, I didn't know that he was one of the entourage. Ish, tersipu-sipu malu aku rasa masa tu!!! Maklumlah, jumpa first crush balik, mah. Berdepan-depan pulak tu! Masa tu lah first time aku dengar suara dia! hahahaha! Tapi dia tak tunjuk reaksi apa-apa pun. Maklumlah, aku budak dompot, mah. Bukan Maya Karin. hahahaha

After that visit to Edinburgh, I never get to see, write apatah lagi talk to him. Some says a year after, he had study problems in uni and went back to Malaysia for good by summertime. And another told me that back in Malaysia, he worked with his brother, and then got the tumour. Brain tumour.

However, nine years after his Edinburgh trip, at the end of September 2003, he sent me a wedding invitation. For the life of me, I couldn’t recall how he had my present home address in Bangi since I’ve stopped writing to him before we moved to the present home. It was a really really nice surprise, though! His Do was to be on the 5th of October.

I couldn’t make it to his Do though ‘coz I didn’t have anybody to go with. My date back then resided in K.K., so, takkan aku nak pi sorang-sorang, kan?

(9 days after that, my date passed away in K.K. Another tragedy; another story…)

It was also from the wedding invitation that I got his phone number in which I sms-ed him hello. And eversince that, I never missed wishing him Happy Birthday come 1st March.

9 months after that, in June 2004, he sms-ed and announced that he got a baby girl… Damia-smthn.

A year after, somewhere in mid 2005, he sms-ed me hello and I told him the good news: I’m about to be married, and to his surprise, to his favourite cartoonist pula tu!!! Tak sangka budak dompot tembam ni ada jugak orang yang nak rupanya, ya. Heh heh.

He was so ecstatic that he actually made it over to my wedding in Bangi, all the way from Tampin. But instead of personally coming over to my room to congratulate me, he sent in his lovely Missus, Kak Myra, and baby daughter to take photos with me. I still remember when Kak Myra first came into my room with her toddler in her hand and said to me, “Akak wife Bitee. Dia suruh masuk ambil gambar dengan Faz. Dia ada tunggu kat luar. Dia kirim salam banyak-banyak!”

Ish, berbesar sungguh hati aku masa tu, tak dapat aku nak gambarkan! Tapi maknanya, even masa wedding aku yang dia ada kat compound rumah aku tu pun aku tak dapat jumpa dia berdepan-depan and hear his voice, hahahaha.

Almost a year later, somewhere in November this year, he sms-ed me, “Can I have PRI’s phone number?”.

I asked back, “PRI???”

Then, almost immediately, he called! First time, woh, speaking on the phone. Tergagap-gagap aku menjawab! Aku yang memang langsung dah tak ingat suara dia macam mana felt kinda like talking to a total stranger padahal aku dah ‘kenal’ dia for 20 years.

“Pusat Rawatan Islam ni. In your blog.”

I was devastated. I knew immediately that he needed urgent help with his tumour. Then I had to tell him the heartbreaking news: that the place was raided in mid-October. Nevertheless, I promised to inform him immediately once the place is reopened.

Sedih. That entire day, I felt so… ralat.

***

On that 20th December 2006, the morning operation was postponed to later that night. The next day, I sms-ed Kak Myra and tanya khabar. Alhamdulillah, Kak Myra kata, everything went well as hoped and prayed for.

On my way to Penang last Friday the 29th, I reminded Abang to find out further on the Pusat Rawatan Islam so that I could inform and possibly help Abg Bitee and Kak Myra.

Little did I know what was stored for me the next day on the 30th. On the ferry to the mainland, I received a call at 5.14pm from “SBT”, but instead of Abg Bitee, it was Kak Myra on the other end.

“Assalamualaikum, Faz…!”

“W’salam! Kak Myra ke? Apa khabar kak?”

“Saya sihat… Faz, erm, belum dengar berita kurang baik lagi ke…?”

“Berita kurang baik??? Berita apa..???”

“Bitee dah meninggal, 28 hb baru-baru ni…!”

“Allah….!!! Innalillaaaahiwa innaaa ilaihi raaaji’uuun…! Kakak…kakak ok???” Dan Allah je yang tahu apa aku rasa masa tu…!

“Tu la, saya cuba call Faz hari tu, tapi asyik tak dapat!!!”

Aiyohhh…. Damn the Taiwan quake that disrupted phone lines that day!!!

And Kak Myra told me that Abg Bitee passed away not because of the tumour or operation, but due to some blood clot from his leg that went up to his heart when he got up to go to the toilet.

“…rasa macam tak percaya je dia dah tak da, sebab dia nampak sihat je lepas operation tu. Sampai lah yang dia beritahu saya dia nak ke toilet. Lepas buang air semua, dia ngadu sesak nafas. Dia ngadu dia lemas. Ramai Doktor datang nak selamatkan dia. Tapi dia pergi juga…”

Apparently, Kak Myra is also expecting their second baby, due this coming July. Ish, my heart goes out to Kak Myra, Damia and baby….

I may not be Abg Bitee’s admirer any longer since eon’s ago, but he’s still a friend... a nostalgic kinda friend. He was also my first sifu when it comes to Architecture: he was the first to teach me the “Form Follows Function” concept in architecture. All in correspondence, can you believe that. It’s like, there was this unique and unexplained bond between us, walaupun di mata dia I am always the “budak tembam” from school. Heh heh.

Ish, it felt like as if he would still reply as he would always do if I were to send him an sms to ask how he was doing... sigh.

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to Kak Myra, Damia, baby and Abg Bitee’s family. Semoga kalian semua tabah, terutama sekali Kak Myra. Semoga baby selamat lahir, ya Kakak…

My prayers to Abg Bitee… semoga rohnya dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan di sisi orang-orang yang beriman dan bertaqwa. Dan terima kasih for all the memories…

Al-Fatihah…

Happy Birthday, Aban Ahi!!!

Today's my 1st baby bro 's 24th Birthday. Big bro to Udi, him. Farhi’s the first boy in the family, hence obviously the apple of everyone’s eyes when he was born.

Adik-adik... Celi, Udi, Azhar, Said, Farhi & Da

Umi & Ayah actually had a choice on Farhi’s birthdate ~ either 31st Dec or the 1st Jan. Since Ayah wanted his first boy to be the manja one, Ayah chose Farhi to be born on the 31st Dec instead. Man that choice made a huge difference between the two dates in two different years, ok.

Farhi was a late-bloomer when he was small ~ he could only read when he was almost at the end of Primary One, with the teacher providing Umi reading-cards to tutor Farhi every single night. And boy was he chubby too!!! He could eat seven tungking ayam goreng sekali ngap; sometimes, he even had nutella as part of his lauk! Gila budak tu, heh heh.

But he grew up, not only being one of the top students in MRSM Jasin, but also manage to do express matrix in UTM, and able to score well enough to transfer credits and skip the first year for his Chemical Engineering degree! Oh I remember how he cried for not having the strength to finish his degree, but he still manage to score Second Degree Upper. How lah he does it???

And, oh ya… he’s all slim and slender and handsome now. Like Lelaki Metroseksual gitu. And now that he’s concentrating on his work as a small-time I.D Designer cum contractor, his muscle definition is all buffing-up well, too! Hebat, gitu!

Farhi’s a sensitive and soft-spoken guy who can be aloof the first time you knew him. But once he feels he has good vibes about you, then he could be the best and trusted mate one could ever find. In all my life as his sister, I’ve never seen him pukul binatang apatah lagi orang; very very very rarely raise his voice when he’s angry; and will cry silently whenever he sees any of his family members suffer. He’s so reliable… he and his ‘brother’ Said were the one yang sangat berpenat lelah preparing my room and the house prior to and post-wedding of my Do last year.

Oh did I mention how a gentleman my brother is??? There was this one time when he was 19, I think, and had his friends over in Bangi. They planned to go out along with this one girl that he had a crush on. The girl, cute and donning tudung bulat, also lives in Bangi. Farhi had me driving him to the stall where the girl’s dad work, and minta izin the father to bawa the girl out with other friends! Bapa mana lah tak cair… terus the dad said “…boleh… tapi jangan lupa solat ya ‘Nak…”!!!

Ish, again, I could write a book on him and the rest of my adik-adik, lah… but all in all, I just wanted to tell him how proud I am with everything that he’s achieved, big or small; and how proud I am of how he’s grown up to be and who he’s become; that I always have faith in whatever he puts his heart to.

Aban, you may now be at the crossorads of your life, but I know, with Allah’s will, UmiAyah’s prayers and your will-power plus friends and us who believe in you, you will succeed, insyaAllah!

So, anyhow...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AHIIIIIIII !!!!!!!

I’m proud of you for standing in the things you believe in, Abang Farhi. Be strong, mkay?

Here's our universe-loads of love and prayers and kisses and heart to you... semoga hidup Ahi akan sentiasa diberkati Allah s.w.t. and blessed with the surrounding love always!!!

We love ya, kiddo!!!

Very Important Car

We finally reached our hotel at Gurney Drive at 4pm. Instead of going straight down to the basement parking, Abang headed on towards the VIP valet area at the main porch.

I was like: Abang, naper tak turun bawah dan park dulu?

Abang replied: Kena register dulu baru park.

And I was like: Wha..?

Hmm, whateverlah, I thot.

Suddenly Abang wound down his window and asked the two bouncer-looking waiting valets for one of the parking spaces, booked with a red plastic cone.

Valets cakap: Sorry 'Cik. Parking sini booked untuk function DSAI malam ni.

Dalam hati aku cakap: Ish, apa Abang ni... maluuuuu la. Kat VIP parking ni, suma keta mahal yang park. Orang tua ni biar betul!

Tapi Abang tuding kat plastic cone yang paling hujung, and cakap: Tu plate no. WP# 1#3 tu, kereta ni punya.

Both valets backed away and looked at our 1.3L vehicle plate number, and then said: Ohh...

Wah, L&G... sebelah kami, ada Merc, Peugeot, Beemer and going-to-be DSAI's Rover. Kami? 3-digit latest K.L plate... pasti dorang tak sangka it actually belongs to a Perodua MyVi. heh heh.

go take a HIKE

From Malaysiakini:

Litrak’s RM80 mil profit and still counting...
Beh Lih Yi Dec 29, 06 4:28pm

The operator of the popular LDP highway is making a healthy profit and it can do without a drastic increase in the toll rates, charges the DAP. More
* 43 percent rise in profit
* ‘Don’t wait till we go to streets’

A minimum of 60sen hike at the LDP highway come this 1st Jan 2007. From RM1.00 to RM1.60. That's a minimum of facking 60% hike, L&G. Ingat tu ya. A MINIMUM of SIXTY percent.

Dengan nama Allah s.w.t, aku tak halalkan sesiapa yang profit from this... baik Boss Litrak, Boss JKR, anak-anak cucu-cucu diorang, even their pet cats or dogs or ayam hutans.

Apatah lagi, bak kata Pak Syekh pada Halim Saad di suatu hari sedekad yang lampau bila Halim Saad minta naikkan tol di PLUS:"...kau rasuah orang, rakyat yang kena bayar???". Yes, of course tol naik juga lepas tu. But see what happened to Halim Saad??? Bungkus. Sebab rakyat tak halalkan his doings.

Doa rakyat yang teraniaya sangat didengari oleh Allah s.w.t. Kalau kau tak bungkus sekarang, pasti kalian-kalian akan mati dalam kehinaan, like your already-dead comrades.

Aku dah baca SK terbaru dan belek the Litrak document. The concessionaires tak larat nak tanggung kos pembinaan hence minta tolong dinaikkan tol??? Puhleaze. Tahun 2007, naik a minimum of 60 sen. But get this, L&G... tahun 2015, akan naik lagi a minimum of RM1.00. That's another 62.5%. So, go lah figure where most of your gaji would go to.

Happy Prosperous New Year, everyone. Dan Selamat Hari Kena Korban.

Year-end Itineraries

I would be on a break from 26th December till next year 2nd January. Ooowyeahhh...

Plans??? A LOT.

* Uar-uar buku Abang on blog. Done it yesterday.

* Swap bilik study/ironing which is larger, lighter, with view but very rarely used, dengan bilik tetamu yang smaller, darker, lacks view hence not suitable for guests. Done it the whole morning and noon today with the help of my lil sis Da. Abang demam... good timing, huh. Don't really mind, though. 'Coz it means gua sorang je The Chef who can control the broth. Yes.

* Kemas and organize lukisan-lukisan Abang yang berenyuk-renyuk dan berkotak-kotak. Done one box dengan Abang and Da tonight, sambil-sambil Da tengok Long Khong (God that girl can really watch that movie without flinching! Me? I can't even stand 5 minutes... terus sesak nafas, seyyy!). Sambung esok maybe one box, insyaAllah.

* Beli kasut sekolah Da, buku sekolah Da and potong wambut gua. Esok pagi, insyaAllah.

* Da and I to follow Abang to Penang for a function with DSAI on Friday night. Patut pi esok pagi and balik Sabtu petang... tapi Abang demam. So will pergi Jumaat pagi instead, insyaAllah.

* Raya Haji di Bangi, insyaAllah.

* Jumpa tenant baru after Raya, insyaAllah. Young couple, Wan and Aini + 2 kids.

Ohmmannn. Nak masuk 2007, dah??? Must have a baby next year... MUST... InsyaAllah!

Happy Birthday, Udi!!!

Today's my youngest baby bro's 22nd Birthday. He's now in his 3rd Year doing Mechanical Engineering in Bath University, U.K.

He's a anak bongsu yang tak perangai macam anak bongsu. Very rajin, especially di dapur. Very very very very likeable... mana-mana dia pergi, ada je dapat kawan-kawan perempuan baik adik-adik atau kakak-kakak yang in turn become his admirers. Even my dad listens to him more than he does to us, ever. I suppose, Udi's got that certain aura of influencing and convincing people easily.

He and his Abang Farhi are very very close. I could only recall once that they ever got into a fist-fight: masa tu Farhi in Std.6 and was in great stress to finish up his Dinosaur Scrap-book project for school, while Udi was in Std.4. One late evening, secara tak sengaja Udi terganggu work-path Farhi in the study-room downstairs. Suddenly all of us upstairs terdengar some huge commotion and Udi screaming angrily in tears at his brother. All of us rushed down and nampak Farhi and Udi tengah bergumpal atas lantai, Farhi silently crying sebab marah adik dia ganggu. My dad being the punisher, tanpa usul periksa terus rotan dua-dua.

Ish, aku cerita balik ni pun, aku jadi sedih. Malam tu, aku tak tidur sebab tolong Farhi with his work and asked Farhi to rest instead.

I reckon, that was our first time seeing Farhi snapped. He has been such a cool Abang to Udi, and when that happened, it spelled out warning to us all. Tapi them being close, soon after the fight, Udi and Farhi dah berbaik dah. Malam tu jugak!

Udi (left) & Farhi

Udi pula memang dari kecil jenis forgetful... tertinggal bekal, lah... pensel, lah... and getah pemadam, jangan nak cerita lah berapa kali hilang sampaikan my mom had to ikat the eraser to his pencil case with tali!

But the advantages of him being forgetful??? He forgets any hurt or pain easily, hence forgives instantly. Maybe that's why my dad listens to him, kot. And he's the only one yang boleh terima and berbaik-baik dengan both his sisters' exes. hehe

Like his brother, he has that creative streak in him. Them two and the sister Celi used to make colourful plasticin houses and gardens on white polistyrene boxes; they used to make cincin out of unused wire and sell them to friends; and oh ya... Udi was also juara khat bahagian daerah, woo. He had that streak from our grand-uncle, Tok Su Dir, yang memang pandai khat. I remembered helping him putting up his 99 Nama Allah for a khat exhibition... yes, all 99 individual placards: he wrote the names, while I outlined and shadowed them. And he and the Abang Farhi used to make extra money by making stage props at primary school... with the help of the Kakak Tua, of course, hahahahaha.

I remembered a week before his UPSR exams, Udi would wake up extra early every morning to baca The Yasseen right after Subuh before getting ready to school. And that boy also scolded us everytime kalau kami beli makanan terlebih untuk buka puasa... like Ustaz-ustaz gitu, hehe! Back then too, he was the only one who doesn't listen to music, even! Tapi sekarang.... sama-sama hantu, ngengengeeee.

I swear I could write an autobiography on all of them. Oh have I mentioned that I just don’t have enough words to describe how they are all my most pride and joy??? I think I have, but I don't mind saying it again. I love you lot so so so much, okay. Not as much as a dog loves a bone, but enough to berganti nyawa if I have to.

So, anyhow...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY UDIIIIIIII !!!!!!!

Here's our universe-loads of love and prayers and kisses and heart to you... semoga hidup Udi juga akan sentiasa diberkati Allah s.w.t... and stay you!!! Hope the winter in Bath would not be too cold for you to celebrate your Day!!!!

We love ya, kiddo!!!

p.s:
Selamat Hari Natal juga kepada sesiapa yang menyambutnya! Dan juga Selamat Hari Gatal kepada all newly-weds out there! haha

Persemadian Cinta di Tahun Pertama

Today's our First Wedding Anniversary! Sekejap je, dah setahun! I wanted to write more, tapi aku kat C.C and 45minit lagi Abang nak fetch me from work to go to a wedding.

Ya, Abang's on his fortnightly deadline week, hence he has to work today, on our 1st Anniversary, rather than spending time making babies. heh. Tapi tak pe...semalam Abang dah belanja tengok cerita
'Cinta' (and despite the fairly not-so-positive comments by Abg Naga, do read Sultan Muzaffar's review on the movie. Calit dengan Sultan Muzaffar!!!); and malam ni a dinner at somewhere quiet, tonight being Xmas Eve. Silap-silap, order je Domino's Pizza and makan depan CSI and Labu Labi... lagi quiet!

Oh, oh... sebelum lupa... soundtrack cerita 'Cinta', power woh!!! Bessstttt!!!

For our first anniversary gift? I bought Abang a pair of nice formal black working shoes (the first pair I ever bought for Abang!)... and in return, he bought me a nice formal black working hand-bag (not the first one though, hehehehehe)... almost the same price, gitu. heh.

And since aku almost very rarely dedicate lagu ke Abang (where as he has, on the contrary, put together a compilation of love songs for me masa zaman kejar-mengejar dulu)... nah, 'Bang, untuk Abang.

Thank you, for loving me, for being so patient with me and the clan, and for still being here... I Love You!

I can be an asshole of the grandest kind
I can withhold like it's going out of style
I can be the moodiest baby and you've never met anyone
who is as negative as I am sometimes

I am the wisest woman you've ever met
I am the kindest soul with whom you've connected
I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone
Who's as positive as I am sometimes.

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here...

I blame everyone else, not my own partaking
My passive-aggressiveness can be devastating
I'm terrified and mistrusting
And you've never met anyone as,
As closed down as I am sometimes.

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here...

What I resist, persists, and speaks
louder than I know
What I resist, you love, no matter
how low or high I go

I'm the funniest woman you've ever known
I am the dullest woman you've ever known
I'm the most gorgeous woman you've ever known
And you've never met anyone as, as everything as I am sometimes.

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can't relate
And you're still here...

And you're still here
And you're still here...

Life's T W I S T E D Transistor

I think, growing-up into adulthood in a super-possessive family is extremely difficult for us siblings.

Mind you though, we have a super-woman Mom who worked by day but woke-up at 5am every single morning to check our schoolwork and then make us breakfast and lunch; came back home to prepare dinner before shuttling off for another assignments at times (hello, Bangi-K.L is jauh what with the jam, okay); took her nap in the study room every night just to keep her kids company while doing their schoolwork; ironed our school clothes and her husband’s working clothes on Saturday or Sunday nights; did the weekly visitation to any of her kids yang masuk asrama be it in Malacca, Lembah Beringin or nearby Cheras (yes, weekly. ‘Coz both she and dad tak sampai hati tak jenguk anak every week).

And we have a dad who’s a damn tough disciplinarian who physically or mentally punish us when things go wrong, big or small, but at the same time loves us to bits, showers us with material conveniences, and we never never been lack of affection and food (Oh, dah tua-tua ni, he's cooled down so so much on the punishing, by the way. Alhamdulillah!)

They trained us to be very very useful around the house, no excuses apart from sakit or perlu study. 'Twas a good training, though... relatives and friends love us being at their homes 'coz we are all ringan tulang. Uncles, Aunts and gramps look highly upon my parents for instilling such values... love and respect among siblings, and always always around at hand.

Little do these people know that we the siblings are expected to be superhumans, or even more.

However, we are forever their babies, you know... forever. Forever expected to go dependant on them and they would be happily provide ‘coz dependency validates their existence and their being. Without our dependency, they feel useless... at least that’s what we were made to understand.

Man, it was difficult to not be their babies and grow out of it... for each and everyone of us adik-beradik. Little small issues would be overblown and exaggerated which eventually would make us sound like we are some anak derhaka or something. Comparisons with other kids or cousins (whose parents are treating similar issues or situation differently but somewhat more logical and very much less emotional) will be met with baffling amount of unjustified frustrations, tears, anguish and stress… it’s just beyond explanation.

We were brought up to understand that these are the things what most parents are made of, which is partially true and sometimes worse. But in our case, so much so, all of us most of the times would be laden with super guilt-feeling to grow-up, grow old and mature. One moment all of us are like one big huge super happy family yang semua orang nak jadi part of; another, everyone in the family jadi highly-charged drama queens and kings with uncontrollable emotions over some plain ordinary issues.

We ‘mature-up’ wondering… is this normal? Or just plain habitual?

As I am the eldest with a good 7 to 11-year gap between me and my siblings, I've promised myself years ago that I would be the best kakak and referral-point to my siblings when they grow up. ‘Coz when I was ‘maturing-up’ and learning about life, I had no referral point(s). There’s this big huge generation gap between me and my folks ~ emotionally I been in and out of trouble God knows so many times and was in dire need to be helped and consulted upon, but I had no one whom I fully trusted that I could turn to and understand the situations I was in and see them level-headedly.

A few times I even felt like quitting life. I would be questioning whether I ni pembawak malang, attracting nonsense and more pain, pain and pain. Some may resort to cigarettes, alcohol or even drugs in times like this. Alhamdulillah, for some reason, I chose not to. And there’s always Allah, and a few really really close souls who’d be coming to the rescue at the 11th hour (thank you my cousin Abg.Yuz; friends Kak Fairuz, Kak Siti & Remo; and my greatest Sifu on Life ever, Mr. SM Voon of NVT Architects ~ thank you, Sir, for your wisdom and patience!!!).

I promised myself that I would not want my adik-adik to go through life alone, though I realized most of the times I failed in that area. At times, you just build walls to protect your healing inner-self that you tend to act selfishly even to your loved ones. I know I would be there for them whenever they needed me and I think they know they could always count on me, but I know too that am not ‘there’ enough.

Adik-adik apparently grow up to be very very well-mannered, educated, sopan and most loveable, alhamdulillah. Apart from my husband, I just don’t have enough words to describe how they are all my most pride and joy. Even though at times they were close to succumbing to life’s failures when making life decisions, but I’ve witnessed how strong-willed each of them has become.

We rejoice brashly over each other’s achievements. We also get hurt and cry quietly & silently whenever we see the other siblings get hurt and cry. .. which have been quite a lot and very much life-rendering.

And so when I read entries such as this on my brother’s blog, I know I’ve not been a very good sister as what I’ve promised myself to become. I’m sorry, Dearest. I just felt like taking all of you away, heal you from all the past anguish and hurt. Don’t you just wish sometimes you could reboot your brains and start life fresh and anew???

***

I read The Sun yesterday about Bi-Polar Disorder: Manic Depression. Apparently, it can be genetic, and a lot of famous persons suffer from this, namely Robin Williams, Adolf Hitler, Van Gogh, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway to name a few… how ‘bout that??? Listening to Alanis Morissette, I strongly believe she’s one, too. Heh.

Reading on further prompted me to search websites on the matter. I sms-ed my siblings on the article and websites. The disorder explains the family so much. I don’t think it’s so much of a disease, but an uncontrolled situation which, over a long period of unattended tendencies may cause extremities of euphoric happiness or unexplained depression. I bet ya a lot of you guys out there suffer the same. Read here. And if in any case that anything that you read applies to you or family or friends, then you’ll understand a hell lot of the situations better.

Which is what the case of my sibling and I yesterday ~ for once, we understand our predicaments better. And we acknowledge that we may need help. For the sake of sanity, especially to those beloved like Abang...

Yang Stim & Yang Potong Stim

Yang Stim.

Aku tahu la aku ni sedikit sebanyak buta IT, tapi aku stim betul dengan
Internet Explorer 7 yang baru ni.... huiiiiii, syiokkkkkk....

Yang Potong Stim.

Pegawai Tadbir:
Kak, esok petang pukul 4pm, semua kakitangan Gred A & B dijemput hadir untuk rasmi toilet automatik baru di Bukit Bintang kat KLiK kita tu.

Aku:
SEMUA?

Pegawai Tadbir:
Ya, semua. Depa announce kat HQ tadi.

Aku:
Untuk apa? Untuk celebrate ada TPM, Menteri-menteri dan DB baru kita ke?

Pegawai Tadbir:
Eh, tak jugak! Nak rai toilet auto baru kita tu la gamaknya, first in South East Asia!

Aku:
...Wha...?

Ish, betullllll potong stim.

Kerana nak kasi sokongan moral pada adik-adik arkitek aku yang handle projek itu, maka insyaAllah aku akan hadir. Tapi kalau nak rai kehadiran "mamat tu", mintak maaf lah 'TokSri, laki aku tak suka kau. Tapi aku nak juga jumpa Big Boss baru aku, Datuk Ab. Hakim Borhan. Pagi tadi tak sempat nak rai hari pertama dia di sini.

By the way, as much as orang dok kutuk toilet auto baru ni... tadi aku dah pi lawat, personal tour oleh Irfan the arkitek and the GBH Toilet people lepas aku selesai inspect kiosk aku in working order ke tak untuk hari esok.

Kemas, buatan toilet tu. Selesa. Surprisingly, aku suka aku suka aku suka.

Apa kata kita jangan skeptik dulu dengan sistem RM1/15minit ni, dan kita cuba dulu, okay? Mana tahu, mungkin toilet ni lebih puas dan selesa digunakan dari yang lain-lain yang percuma.

House: For Rent

Dengan berat hatinya, aku terpaksa melepaskan my current young tenant, Umar, Su and anak-anak, to move out this 31 Dec since Umar & Su dah dapat kerja di Ampang. They've rented the house since Dec 2004 and have been very very lovely tenants. So far tak pernah langsung menyusahkan aku, would pay me promptly on time (kalau tak prompt, Umar would inform me via e-mail), and the kids being so lovely... aku je not a really good landlady. The last I visited them was last year May, kot. Teruk, kan? But that's because I trust them to take care of my house and aku tak de sebab nak ganggu dorang kat rumah tu melainkan when I'm needed je. So, in a way, I'm equally a lovely landlady gak la, bukan ka? hahahaha.

Anyhow, kot la any of you out there who would be interested in renting out the place as of this 1st Jan 2007, or know of anybody who is searching for a place, do tolong uar-uarkan, ya?? Tenchu!!!

Kitty-boy

Hari tu aku bercerita kat UmiAyah, how Abang&I think that Labu & Labi rasanya dah lupa yang depa ni bukan spesis manusia.

Mana taknya… setiap kali aku or Abang baca suratkhabar atau buat kerja kat komputer atau melukis-lukis, ada aje lah spesis kucing ni yang akan duduk sama-sama nak distract attention and sama-sama nak type the keys or draw.

Malam-malam, nak kena tidur sama kami… terutama sekali Labi, dia mesti nak tidur dekat-dekat dengan aku.

Pagi-pagi, Labi nanti sudah naik kongsi bantal and tolak aku ke tepi. Pastu panjat-panjat atas aku, tidur atas aku, cium-cium aku.

Kalau aku tengah duk diam-diam tengok TV, Labi will softly call on to me first, "Mmmmeeee-eee-eeehhh," or "Mmaawaiiiii,", climbs onto my lap, belek-belek hidung and mulut aku, hidu-hidu, jilat-jilat, and then baring atas pangku. Pastu dok toleh-toleh ke atas tengok muka aku, pastu jengah-jengah leher suruh aku cium dia in which I would. Pastu pretend to tengok TV sama-sama.

Tiga saat lepas tu he would toleh-toleh ke atas semula nak tengok muka aku, pastu jengah-jengah leher suruh aku cium dia in which I would. Pastu pretend to tengok tv sama-sama semula.

And he will repeat the same thing every three seconds for a few minutes. Masa tu, I would have to kiss him on his nose an average of 20 times per minute, kalau tidak dia tak moh tengok TV. Aku cium Abang sehari pun tak sebanyak tu, heh heh.

So... kucing ke namanya makhluk macam tu, tu haa?

Umi gelak-gelak, and then said, “Macam mana dia nak ingat yang dia tu kucing. Tah-tah korang yang terlupa yang dia tu bukan manusia, heh heh”.

Hmm, true. Betul jugak, kot.

Like, I mean, look at Labi here…. Who wouldn’t want to make a human out of this baby, huh? Huh? Eiii geyyyam dengan dia, neiiii…

Labi tak kasi baca paper

Heaven Can Weight

From now till 12th January 2006, I need to lose a minimum average of 667 grams per day.

Sounds easy-peasy, but possible ah???

Beloved Abang's respond to the above question this morning was this:

Bollllehhhh... tapi nanti Abang takut orang kata "Eh Z*r...? Kat dalam buku you, you kata you dedicate the book to your wife, tapi naper you bawak pompuan lain???" Haa, kan dah susah Abang nak menjawabnya!

Hmm betul gak tu, kan 'Bang...? Heheheheheheheeee.

Feeled Mixing

***

Dari Jumaat lepas, Adi (tucing sulung aku kat Bangi) tak sihat. Constipated yang amat teruk. Umi kata dia duduk je kat tepi pasir poopoo dia, cuba nak poopoo, tapi tak leh poopoo. Satu hari tu dia tak makan. Da adik aku kata malam tadinya Adi tak mau tido pun atas katil dengan dia.

***

Hari Sabtu, Adi cuba nak makan ikan rebus kebiasaanya, tapi tak habis. Instead, dia muntah-muntah sampai keluar muntah jernih campur hijau-hijau. Umi panic terus suruh Da call aku. Petang lepas Abang habis dari kerja, aku minta Abang tolong bawakan aku balik ke Bangi, nak hantar Adi ke vet.

Masa nak angkat Adi, Adi meracau-racau nak gigit sesiapa yang sentuh dia. Mesti dia sakit sangat. Umi yang tak suka kucing (like, TAK SUKA to a tee, mkay) jadi sayang betul kat Adi. Umi kata, "Ish...sian dia, dia sakit tu... gosok-gosok dulu kepala dia... dia sakit sangat tu... lembut-lembut sikit angkat dia...". Da pun pelan-pelan angkat Adi masuk ke dalam bakul beralaskan tuala Adi and suratkhabar lama.

Kat dalam bakul, Adi cuba gak nak poopoo sebab sakit perut sangat tapi poopoo tak nak keluar jugak. Sampai menggeletar-geletar lutut dia. And then dia give-up. Kesian sungguh. Dah la bulu dia gugur-gugur and kulit dia kering sebab dehydrated. Kesian dia...

Kami tinggalkan Adi kat vet Bangi yang sungguh kurang ethiknya dan doktor mudanya sungguh kurang professional dan tersangat emotional, bagi pendapat aku. Tapi sebab Abang kata kita semua mesti sampai balik ke Cheras by 8.40pm for him to catch that darn ManU game, maka terpaksalah Adi settle with that gritty place for the time being instead of at Vet Taman Segar kat Cheras yang tutup pukul 9pm hari tu. Darn that ManU game.

***

Hari Ahad, Abang kerja jadi tinggal aku seorang kat rumah. Aku risaukan Adi yang teramat. Vet Bangi only opens at 2pm on Sundays. Ish. Pukul 4suku, aku call vet and talked to that Dr.Emo. Aku tak pernah bercakap dengan doc yang macam tu: dia sungguh malas nak jawab soalan-soalan aku padahal in the first place she should be explaining to me all her diagnostic procedures and her steps in taking care of Adi's condition even before I started asking her questions!

Tengah dia emo-emo explain kat aku, line putus. I just couldn't be bothered to call the place back and instead called my Vet Cousin, Kakak, for a second opinion. Kakak, yang dah memang blacklist that place, told me that from how I explained back at what had happened, the Doc sounded sungguh kurrrrenngggg profesional and etika, hence encouraged me to keluarkan Adi and hantar ke Vet Tmn Segar instead.

Aiyoh, Vet Tmn Segar tutup pukul 5pm on Sundays. Any emergencies would be charged an extra RM100. Boarding is double than that paid kat Vet Bangi.

Hmm. Tak pa lah. At least hati aku senang sikit. It's like you're torn between going to the expensive private hospital but with personal care, to the low-(or no-)cost gomen hospital and with less-than-personal care.

Fikir fikir lagi....personal care it is!

Aku pun terus call Celi to ajak Da to check-out Adi, and then drive to Cheras to pick me and pi hantar Adi masuk emergency kat Vet Tmn Segar.

Masa kat Vet Bangi... aku letak deposit RM20. Total sehari (boarding+ubat), RM52.

Kat Vet Tmn Segar??? Deposit je dah 4 kali ganda the total of sehari admitting Adi di Bangi. Aku dah kira-kira, mungkin ada another 8 kali ganda lagi aku nak kena bayar in the end. Haa, kira sendiri lah, tuan-tuan dan puan-puan, berapa jumlahnya nanti. Zup-zap kad lah, apa lagi.

Tapi sekurang-kurangnya, Dr.Jonathan (yang attended our on-call) siap call aku personally dari hospital at 10pm to tell me the procedures he's done and his findings and what-nots... at the price of me feeling so darn guilty for sedap-sedap catching the CSIs kat rumah while Dr.Jon attending to my tucing at the vet. But wait se-minit, he and the hospital will eventually be getting a-quarter of my month's pay...so, what the heck. I should not feel guilty lah kan... or should I...????

Nah...

***

I spoke to Dr.Jon tadi. He says "...Adi's still not out of danger yada yada yada and I'd still need to do this yada yada yada and in four days' time I may have to xray him again to see whether his faeces are all out before we can decide if he can be sent home for you to care for him personally yada yada yada...".

In another four days' time??? Aiyak. That's probably another 2 kali ganda than Adi's total admittance in Vet Bangi. Hmm, dugaan tu.

Tak pe lah, yang penting, Adi kena sihat okay??? Umi dah tanya-tanya tadi bila Adi dapat balik. Umi rindukan Adi teman Umi masak kat dapur. Umi rindukan Adi teman UmiAyah tengok TV lepas makan. Kak Da rindukan Adi tidor dengan Kak Da malam-malam....

Suratkhabar today says Cuepacs minta Kerajaan to review and naikkan gaji civil servants up to 10%-40%. The last review being in 1992. Minyak, tol and others dah naik tah berapa kali dah sejak tu.

About time, brudder.

Kalau tak, inilah dia Arkitek Bandaraya pertama yang akan jadi part-time pekerja KFC atau McD atau Carrefour atau Tesco, just to make ends meet in this Kota Metropolitan.

Cepat ah gaji masuk next week...................................aiyak.

Mixed feeling about my Emceeing assignment tonight at 8pm di Restoran Jln Conlay. Tah naper tak de mood. Skrip pun tak siap lagi. Sebab hujan lebat kot. Sebab nak pi ke situ jam jadah teruk kot. Sebab Adi sakit kot. Sebab pitis habis kot. Tapi kalau MC, dapat duit woh. Tapi dapat in 3-mths' time lah. Apa jadah.

How Golf Was Born

It’s Abang’s working weekend, and I decided to go the office too to clear off my tray. Ya, ya, alone, in my office, with 3 roh tentera Jepun. Heh. Not very funny now, innit.

So I put on my DVD “Robin Williams Live On Broadway” that I bought sometime around last week but never had the chance to really sit down and watch it. On with the DVD, not watching but listening instead, while me clearing off clutters.

At one part, he was goofing around about being drunk with the Irish, the Japanese, and then the Scottish. The last one caught my ear (for very obvious reasons) and I found it hilarious since he actually got the accent almost right and then getting the F-word in every other sentence… exactly miming a typical drunk Scots!

And here’s what Mr. Williams thinks how golf was born in Scotland… out from a drunken Scots:

***

Here's my idea for a f*ckn’ sport.
A knock of ball and a gopher hole.

Oo you mean like pool?

F*ck off pool! No’ (“not”) with a straight stick… but wi’ (“with”) little f*cked-up stick!! I whack tha ball and it goes in a gopher hole!

Oo you mean like croquet?

F*ck croquet! I put the hole hundreds o' (“of”) yards away! It's great fun, there!

Oo like a bowling thing?

F*ck nooo! Not straight... I put shit in tha way! Like trees an’ bushes an’ high grass! So ya can lose yer f*ckn' ball! An’ go whackin’ away with a f*ckn' tyre iron!

Whackin’ away and each time ya missed ya feel like ya gonna have a stroke!

Hahahaha!!

F*CK! That’s what we'll call it!!! A stroke, cause every time ya missed ya feel like ya gonna f*ckn' die!

Oo wait oo great...oo this is a better bet oo f*ck this is brilliant!!! ~ Ya know, right near in the end I put a flat piece, wi’ a little flag… to give ya f*ckn' hope!

But then I put a pool and a sandbackster, f*ck with ya ball again!!!

An’ ya’ll be there thrashin’ yer ass, jerkin’ away in tha sand, ahhhahahahahaaaa!!!

...Oo you do this one time??

F*ck, nooo!! EIGHTEEN F*CKN' TIMES!!!

***

And that, my friends, was how golf was first born in St.Andrews, Scotland… according to Mr. Robin Williams!

Great story, eh??? heh.

Missed them, drunk Scots...!

Hantu & Penyamun

Sebelum Unit aku pindah ke ruang pejabat yang kami tengah guna sekarang ni, ruang ni dulu was previously used as a restaurant, and then a library.

Before the old rooms in this space were hacked clean, ada satu bilik kebal kat belakang which was attached to the toilets yang mungkin pernah digunakan as both freezer room (masa zaman Restaurant) and document room (masa zaman Library). I tell you, sungguh menyeramkan area situ. Gelap semacam.

Selepas all the hacking, we used skim-coated and light-painted gypsum-board as partitions at this area to accommodate stores and bilik-bilik solat. But even with the light-weight structures and light-coloured walls, area kat belakang tu still rasa seram semacam.

Masa kami mula pindah masuk, Boss aku kata dia pernah cuba amalkan petua nak detect other being(s) in the office... and he claimed he can actually feel that certain existence(s).

Menangis-nangis budak tu. Kena 'ganggu' betul-betul lepas solat Maghrib pulak tu.

One day, mak Intan datang lawat Intan di office. Mak Intan ni tukang urut. Best woh kalau mak Intan urut. So you can say lah that her mom has that bit of clairvoyance in her.

Since her visit, mak Intan never said anything about the office until the day when she came over to my house to urut me and I asked her about any being she detected at the office. She said she saw three of them. Macam tentera Jepun dulu. Tahu-tahu je lah, tanah ni dulu kan hutan... tapi insyaAllah dia tak ganggu kita, makcik kata.

So kadang-kadang kalau ada bebudak masih lagi tertinggal kat pejabat, tengah buat kerja or just plain stranded waiting for the rain to subside, maka he or she will buka all the doors to the toilets or the bilik solat bila perlu guna bilik-bilik tu.

Pagi tadi masa aku tengah beri-beri (ni bahasa sopan si Intan untuk 'buang air besar') kat toilet ofis aku yang terletak betul-betul di sebelah bekas bilik kebal tu, dan tika di dalam keremangan yang samar-samar, it just dawned on me that:

Kenapa, ya, kalau kita takut antu, kita akan buka semua pintu; tapi kalau kita takut penyamun, kita akan tutup semua pintu???

Tricking The Eye

One of the earliest things we learnt during the first term of the 1st year Architecture course in the Edinburgh College of Art was about European history & art and art techniques.

One of the syllabus was "Trompe L'oeil" and Anamorphosis. Aku rasa, kursus senibina kat M'sia tak belajar sangat pasal teknik ni. Teknik-teknik ni are more renowned in the Europe because they are widely used in European paintings and murals in historical buildings to give false depth to boring surfaces or even to deceive the eyes on the spaces.

Aku sebenarnya dah lupa langsung pasal subject ni, until today, when I read an article written by my friend Fareed Hamzah of Cempaka Schools in the latest Majalah Arkitek. His school had a Trompe L’oeil program recently and they won themselves into the Malaysia Book of Records as being the 'biggest 3D-mural in Malaysia'.

We both exchanged sms… me puji-puji the mural (tengok la gambar kat bawah ni!) and his article, and both of us end-up missing Edinburgh a hell lot…

Anyhow, new lessons for you lot. Trompe L’oeil and Anamorphosis. Great for kids’ and students’ projects in the kindies, schools, unis or even at home. 'Coz aku pasti sangat budak-budak kita ni sangat talented tapi sangat kurang exposure dan galakan.

Talk To Ma Hands

All these from The Star, 29th Nov 2006:

"Expect 10 sen to RM1 rise in toll rates on five major highways next year..." (in which, a layman's term for 'next year' would simply mean this coming '1st Jan 2007', mkay)

"US crude oil settled at US$60.32 per barrel, trading from US$59.26 to US$60.35..." (our petrol prices were hiked up when it was US$72 per barrel, mkay)

So, okay. With that reduction of crude oil per barrel, it's just beyond me why electricity and water tariffs still had to be increased since the kerajaan now should have more money to 'bail' them out for the sake of the rakyat.

And oh... also from the same paper, a letter from a loyal citizen (loyal, presuming that a smart citizen like this lady would still want to love a country who doesn't really love her back unconditionally):

"Why must we pay through our noses for projects that could have been done at half their costs? The excuse for the toll hike was that the Government had to compensate concessionaires to the tune of RM68mil last year and RM76mil this year because the toll collected was insufficient. Yet the Government can spend RM100mil to send two astronauts into space to play batu seremban, spin tops and make teh tarik..."

Tak ke lawak namanya tu???

And why a debt-free and able country like Singapore still do not send astronauts into space is also beyond me.

Oh, hang on a sec. Them S'poreans berpijak di bumi nyata, me thinks. They work themselves darn hard first to get their Science Center right and canggih and really educative and on international-standard before reaching for the stars, right. Make the rakyat pandai, first. And then they can all talk space language... right down from a toddler, up to the vegetable mongers in their Pasar Borongs.

And what's this... a third istana on the drawing board??? England has THE Buckingham Palace, America has THE White House, we already have THE Istana Negara, and another one in Putrajaya, mind you. As much as I love and respect our Rajas and Sultans, I seriously think that the reason for the workings of the third istana sebab dah tak muat untuk upacara-upacara istana is like... hellooo. You allow your sub-ordinates to bakar rumah-rumah peneroka bandar in Kg. Berembang without proper compensation and yet you are allocated money to build a third palace to accommodate your Royal guests? For them to donate the compensation, izit?

Ohmannn. It's........ sad. And it's so clearly not right somewhere here, no...?

I feel so cheated, lah peeps. These people, right... I thought we voted them for them to work and slave for us. Looks like we are the ones slaving up for them, mate! And we don't even have the proper legal channels to remind them of their oaths and promises.

Ni mesti jenis spesis pemimpin yang tak takut kena soal dalam kubur esok ni. Allahu a'lam.

And please eh, those who (think) they have the so-call rational explanations to lecture me, spare them from me and my comments space please, eh. Or kalau dah tak tahan sangat, you may just talk to my hands, baby, coz my face just ain't listenin'.

'Coz you certainly do not know the real hard facts that's been covered-up from you.

What's In A Name

"ps:
Jangan kau tanya kenapa adik aku tak rupa macam aku malah lebih cantik (she looks so uncanny like mom... me, dad). Sensitif. Hmph."

When my first baby brother was born, I actually had the first hand of 'approving' the names chosen by my gramps. My baby bro had three names to choose from: 'Ahmad Nur', 'Ahmad Nurfarhan', or 'Ahmad Nurfarhi'.

I chose 'Ahmad Nurfarhi' 'coz "...yang lain tu bunyi macam nama perempuan arr," the 9-yr old me said. Can't really recall the makna of the chosen name though.

Udi, Farhi's younger bro, was first named as 'Ahmad Norrashdan'. Last-last minit kat registrar, tukar jadi 'Ahmad Norrushdi'. Pun aku dah tak ingat apa makna nama dia dah.

What I know is, me & my sis' names don't really have any makna in Arabic... though adding a letter 'h' in one part of my name would make my being as 'Cahaya Yang Berkebolehan'... chewah.

One fine day though, during my pimply and horrifyingly-ugly teenage years , I asked my Mom over our names.

Me:
'Mi, how did you and Ayah come up with my name eh?

Mom:
Nama kombinasi Umi & Ayah tu...

Me:
Ohhh. Hmm, nama Celi pulak???

Mom:
(Without second thoughts...) Dulu masa Umi Ayah kat ITM, Umi ada sorang dorm-capt ni, nama Sherliza. Cannnnntiiiiik sangat dia tu. Dari nama dia lah nama Celi came up... Noor Sherliza.

Me:
Hmm... okay... padanla Celi cantik.......... (voice trailing off)

Mom:
(Realising what she just said) Eh... mana ada sebab tu...bla bla bla (And she tried to explain to make me feel better, but to this very day aku dah tak ingat apa dia kata. I suppose, aku dah sedih dah masa tu. Huak.)

I mean, dorm-capt dia tu wujud sebelum aku dilahirkan... so, naper dia tak gunakan nama dia kat aku, ek?

Huak.

Nevertheless, aku amat-amat bangga that my adik-adik semuanya cantik-cantik dan handsome-handsome dan bijak-bijak belaka. Bangga yang teramat! So kalau mak aku nak re-namekan Celi jadi Siti Nursherliza pun, aku tak kisah sebenarnya. Heh heh.

Happy Birthday, Celi!!!

Today's my baby sister's 26th Birthday.

Dulu kan, I had to wait for her for SEVEN YEARS woo..!!! Boring woo, jadi anak tunggal. Kids in the neighborhood dah ada adik-adik nak dibuli... and yet me? Still main lego sowang-sowang...

Tapi lepas my sister, I guess my parents had more fun and teknik pun sudah baiiiikkk so berderet-deret plak anak keluar...the next two adiks were one in every two years. Habis hilang childhood akak, kena jaga adik-adik tecik... heh heh. But man, I look back dengan penuh kasih sayang, though. I missed those times, in fact.

Anyhow...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAK CELIIIII!!!

My universe-loads of love and prayers and kisses and heart to you... semoga hidup Kak Celi akan sentiasa diberkati Allah s.w.t dan senantiasa ceria serta bahagia setelah pelbagai cabaran yang kita dah tempuh.

"Kadang-kadang Allah sembunyikan matahari, Dia datangkan petir dan kilat...kita menangis dan tertanya-tanya ke mana hilangnya sinar, rupanya Allah nak hadiahkan kita pelangi..."

Abg Z*l&I love you so very much, kiddo... Hell, you my one and only sister, kid.

Love ya.

I have to say I enjoy every one of his cartoons. They never fail to draw a chuckle from me.

Sad to say, other cartoonists have grown fat (and rich) and are largely irrelevant. Your guy is the obvious heir. He should put them together in a book.

Please pass my appreciation to your cartoonist.

Yin

Yin,

He is actually putting out a book. To be published by our publishing arm, Kinibooks, it should hit the streets next month, if not in the New Year.

I'm forwarding your note to Z*r. I'm sure he appreciates your feedback.

Abang's Demo

Today at 2.30pm, Abang will lead his pack of demonstrators at Suhakam's office in Jalan Raja Laut nearby. Joining him, among others would be Tian Chua, Abg Zul Noordin, Azmin Ali, Jasmine, Ginny, Abg Nasir ISA, Isham Rais... and the rest of his loyal comrades.

Why the demo? The clipping from the StarOnline below would explain.

Am I worried? Damn right I sure am.

Aku siap suruh Abang park his car at my office... so at least the car is within my reach for me to ferry it around should anything happen, na'udzubillaahimindzaalik.

I won't be joining the demo since my job position does not allow me to. I am not against the government per se, b'cause in my (naive) interpretation, the government is administered by a group of people despite of their affiliations to any parties, belief or race... not just by the people from the winning party. Nevertheless, whatever my husband is fighting for namely in the name of freedom of speech and press, I am behind him 120%. That's basic human rights, maa... freedom of speech and press.

Sejahat-jahat U.S or U.K pun, they can criticize the administration. All in the name of betterment, apa. Daripada ditayangkan very highly-strung racist assembly yang tak membawa apa-apa kebaikan pada masyarakat secara keseluruhan, no?

Walau apa-apa pun, I pray that they would all be alright and hope you guys out there would pray for us all, too. Sesungguhnya untuk setiap perjuangan yang murni, Allah akan lebih mengetahui akan kebaikannya dan akan membalas seadil mungkin. InsyaAllah.

Still No Word On PKR Request For Paper

KUALA LUMPUR: An application from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to publish its own newspaper has still not been approved.

PKR information chief Tian Chua said the party had applied to the Home Ministry for the permit in May last year.

“We have tried all avenues to get some sort of answer from the ministry but all the reply we got was that the application was still under study.

“I cannot see how the ministry can approve so many permits for commercial magazines but did not even look at PKR’s application,” he said.

The party will hand over a memorandum on the matter to the Malaysian Human Rights Commission on Friday.

Have you ever, at any one time, had the feeling that life is bad, real bad, and you wish you were in another situation?

You find life make things difficult for you, work sucks, life sucks, everything seems to go wrong...

Read the following story... It may change your views about life:

After a conversation with one of my friends, he told me despite taking 2 jobs, he brings back barely above 1K per month, he is happy as he is.

I wonder how he can be as happy as he is considering he has to skimp his life with the low pay to support a pair of old parents, in-laws, a wife, 2 daughters and the many bills of a household.

He explained that it was through one incident that he saw in India.........that happened a few years ago when he was really feeling low and touring India after a major setback.

He said that right in front of his very eyes he saw an Indian mother chop off her child's right hand with a chopper. The helplessness in the mother's eyes, the scream of pain from the innocent 4-year-old child haunted him until today.

You may ask why did the mother do so; had the child been naughty, had the child's hand been infected??

No, it was done for two simple words- - - TO BEG! The desperate mother deliberately caused the child to be handicapped so that the child could go out to the streets to beg.

Taken aback by the scene, he dropped a piece of bread he was eating half-way. And almost instantly, a flock of 5 or 6 children swamped towards this small piece of bread which was covered with sand, robbing bits from one another.

The natural reaction of hunger. Stricken by the happenings, he instructed his guide to drive him to the nearest bakery. He arrived at two bakeries and bought every single loaf of bread he found in the bakeries. The owner was dumbfounded but willingly sold everything. He spent less than $100 to obtain about 400 loaves of bread (this is less than $0.25 per loaf) and spent another $100 to get daily necessities.

Off he went in the truck full of bread into the streets. As he distributed the bread and necessities to the children (mostly handicapped) and a few adults, he received cheers and bows from these unfortunate

For the first time in his life he wondered how people can give up their dignity for a loaf of bread which cost less than $0.25.

He began to tell himself how fortunate he is. How fortunate he is to be able to have a complete body, have a job, have a family, have the chance to complain what food is nice and what isn't nice, have the chance to be clothed, have the many things that these people in front of him are deprived of...

Now I begin to think and feel it, too! Was my life really that bad?

Perhaps... No, I should not feel bad at all... What about you?

Maybe the next time you think you are, think about the child who lost one hand to beg on the streets.

"Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, it is the realization of how much you already have."

"When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us."

"It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives."

"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way."

"The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and Heartaches."

Scramblings

Yaakob apa? Yaakob Latif ke? (nama KL’s First Mayor, ni. Konon aku nak wat lawak...)

Tak, tak. Yaakob apa tah. Anyway, satu hari, dia datang sekolah, tangan dia luka-luka.

Atu?

Cikgu tanya, “Awat tangan hang luka-luka tu Yaakob??”

Hmm…

Tanpa berfikir, dia jawab, “Toka keghak, Cikgu!”

Eh???

Haa, tu lah! Kami sekelas dok fikir, apa bennnnda la mamat ni merepek. Pastu, cikgu tanya la lagi, “Haa?? Toka keghak??? Penyakit ka apa tu, Yaakob?”

Atu???

Rupa-rupanya, Yaakob tersalah cakap. Sebenarnya, kegha tokak (kera tokak)! Dia ada bela kera panjat pokok kelapa, jadi, kena gigit dengan kera belaan dia!

Laaa…

Mengingatkan aku.

Masa aku baru mula kerja di organisasi ni, aku dan penolong aku Jefri kena pi lawat tapak-tapak projek yang dah ‘dihumban’ ke aku selaku arkitek baru.

Dengan driver office, kami pun mulakan perjalanan… the first among 5 sites.

“Mula-mula ni Cik nak ke mana dulu???”. Masa tu aku belum kawen lagi maa.

Dengan selamba je aku cakap, “Kita pi Jalan Keling Gentang dulu ah ‘bang…”

Jefri dah gelak-gelak sakan kat seat belakang. Tapi abang Driver faham.

“Baekkkk,” kata brader driver sambil senyum-senyum tahan lawak. Maklum, aku masa tu pegawai baru, brader driver ada rasa segan nak gelakkan aku kot.

Aku tak bermaksud nak racial slandering, maa… tapi tersalah cakap. Sebenarnya nak pi Jalan Genting Kelang nu. Sorry lar…

Kuih SeRemp-It

Hari ni dah 29 Syawal. Esok dah bulan baru. Sebulan lagi bulan Haji. Ish, kejap je kan. And ish, aku sempat buat PuasaNam selama 2 hari jek tahun ni... dok tangguh, tangguh. Makin Syawal nak habis, masa tu lah jabatan-jabatan sibuk nak buat 'open house' lah, aku tak sihat lah, aku takleh puasa lah.

Tapi Raya Puasa baru-baru ni, bagi aku, seronoknya ada lebih sikit... sebab Raya pertama aku beraya dengan 'extended family' i.e keluarga Abang di Pendang. Kami balik Pendang on 2nd Raya after first celebrating in Bangi.

Huiii hingaq tak hengat beraya dengan keluarga Abang. Bessst! So, in Pendang, size does not matter coz everybody's on the same boat...heh2.

Kalau beraya kat belah aku lak, saudara-mara aku asyiklah nak kutuk-nyakat-tegur saiz badan aku and Abang... macamlah tak de benda lain yang nak dibuat bahan perbualan ~ like, tucing-tucing aku ke, kerja aku ke, kerja Abang ke...

Aku paling suka anak-anak sedara Abang. Depa refer Abang as 'Pak Ngah'. Semua anak-anak saudara Abang pandai-pandai belaka. Dan yang paling penting, depa semua taiiiiiyaaaangggg kat Mak Ngah depa ni...hehehehehe. Tu pun sebab Pak Ngah dorang memang sayangkan dorang sejak kecik lagi.

Dalam semua anak-anak sedara Abang yang 20 orang tu, ada 4 orang se-beradik yang tak reti-reti nak panggil aku Mak Ngah or Cik Lin, and panggil aku Kak Lin instead. Tak pe tak pe aku suka aku suka sebab jadi muda gitu.

Empat beradik ni (Shafiq 20, Syamiem 17, Shasha 14 and yang bongsu umur 6) adalah anak-anak kakak kedua Abang, Kak Tun. Hari kedua kami di Kedah, Kak Tun buat open house. Ada banyak biskut-biskut Raya yang sedap.

Aku:
Hmmm... sedapnya biskut-biskut ni...! Rajinnya korang tolong Mak buat biskut!

Miem:
Eh semua tu kueh tunjuk ja la Kak Lin. Ada satu ja hat Mak buat.

Aku:
Ya ka? Kueh hat mana satu?

Miem:
Alah, yang mudah tu... serundit, serindit ka apa nama dia..

Aku:
Kueh Serindit? Ropa macam mana tuuu???

Shafiq mencelah:
Ihhh addddaaa ka nama dia camtu, Miem. Kueh Serendit lah!!!

Shasha pulak mencelah:
Eh bukaaaaaaaannnn. Bukan lahhh. Nama dia lain sikit! Hmm, Serempit ka. Eh, bukaaaan... tapi sikit-sikit maaacam Serempit lah...!

Aku:
Hmm... kuih Semprit kot...??

Shafiq, Miem & Shasha:
Haaaa... itu lah diaaa. Sempriiiit!

Hahahahaha. Bestkan diorang? Heh heh.

Family Day@Cameron Highlands: 1

Abang's office had a Family Day at the Cameron Highlands from 16th (Thursday) till 18th (saturday) November 2006. Why they did it tengah-tengah bulan masa orang tengah kering kontang??? Pannnnnnnjang ceritanya, 'Cu. In short, ini sahajalah masanya yang semua orang boleh berkumpul since their fortnightly-deadline next week Monday ditunda ke another week Monday.

Aku memang suka suka suka naik highlands... sebab sejuk, mah. Aku ni kan species Polar Bear... banyak lemak, hence bukan untuk hidupan di Tanah Rendah seperti di Kuala Lumpur ini. The last time I went there was in 2004. So, I was really looking forward for the trip. Kena pula this is considered Abang's&I first 'honeymoon' trip sejak nikah. Nikah dengan Ketua Editor slash Editorial Cartoonist kenalah sacrifice honeymoon, kan? Deadline tak macam orang lain. Almost every weekend aku dijanda-i.

Anyway, kami berkonvoi 3 kereta. Kereta Abang (4 orang), Kereta Wanti (2 dewasa, 1 kanak-kanak) and Kereta bebudak bujang (4 orang). Kereta Tian Chua (4 orang) datang later in the evening.

Kami naik ikut Tapah. Beautiful small meandering roads amidst lush greens... tapi bila bertembung dengan lori angkut tanah ka, bas ka, mula la seriau. Since they were all coming downhill, bawak cek main laju ka.

On the way up, ada banyak penempatan orang asli. Tetiba tengah-tengah rumah-rumah rembia orang asli, ada kedai Kedai Runcit Kumar. Wah, hebat dia ni, buka kedai runcit di tengah-tengah 'dunia lain'. But I reckon store tu also serves those JKR maintenance crew yang selalu ada at the slopes sepanjang-panjang jalan naik untuk betulkan slope lah, potong rumput lah, sapu sampah lah...

The first pekan was Ringlet. Aik... another Kedai Runcit Kumar. Hmm.

Our apartments were in Tanah Rata. Wah kat sana ada lebih banyak lagi kedai runcit Kumar lah, kedai makan Kumaran lah...

Maka kami satu kereta buat satu andaian: Mungkin inilah asal usulnya nama Cameron Highlands. Asalnya ialah Kumaran Highlands. But for the sake of commercial purposes especially when spelling and pronouncing the name when promoting the place internationally, they decided to change it to Cameron Highlands instead. Hinggalah ke hari ini. Heh.

***

Kami ambil gambar punya lah banyak... especially Tian Chua and Jasmine. The second night we were there after 'family' dinner and post-dinner outing, Tian buat slide show on his laptop. He even showed me his photos during the previous Turkey trip especially those architectural photos that he captured... and he introduced me to Google's Picasa2 programme. Aiyoh that programme manyak canggih lah! Tian says, it's way easier and faster to download photos using Picasa than using Flickr or Yahoo, plus you can share online some more. Canggih, canggih.

Tapi entah-entah aku sa-orang je dalam dunia ni yang tak pernah guna Picasa. So tadi aku pun try search for article on Picasa and found one di StarOnline. Rupanya Picasa ni baru lagi, ya?

Tak pa. At least aku kongsi untuk semua kat sini.

Tapi kenapa aku cuba run the programme, it keeps saying "picasa2-current.exe is not a valid Win32 application" eh??? Help me, anyone?

Labi...After 6 Months

Aku tengah belek-belek gambar-gambar tucing yang baru dan lama. And my,my... sekejapnya Labi membesar dan dah jadi macam akak - dompot tetapi kiut.

I'll be off-work tomorrow and day after. It's Abang's office Family Day in Cameron till Saturday. Apa lah depa buat tengah-tengah bulan...lepas Raya pulak tu. Aku nak gak shopping souvenir kat sana untuk bebudak ofis aku, kan?

So, malam ni kena hantar itu dua ekor 'budak kucing' pi boarding at the Taman Segar Vet Hospital for three nights. Kesian lah depa... they are both so manja and accustomed to just Abang and I that everytime after they are being boarded, they'll come back home all stressed out and yet more manja as if saying "...please don't leave us again...please..." :-(

Padanlah Mak Ayah aku dulu berat hati nak tinggalkan aku kat asrama masa aku umur 13 tahun...

Labi, at maybe 2 weeks old, 22 May 2006

Baghal Bebenor

Something that gotten through my email this morning, thanks to Pika. The very the memalukan civil servants. Aiyoh. Mintak maaflah kalau akak ni laser, tapi takkanlah kamu ni baghal sangat kot? Lawak betul lah kamu ni... heh2.

True story...

A taxpayer called up the LHDN (Inland Revenue Board) in Terengganu, and asked for Form B. The LHDN clerk who answered the call asked for the address to send the form to. The conversation goes:

LHDN CLERK:
"Boleh bagi alamat encik?" (Can you give me your address?)

TAXPAYER:
"Hantar ke Ranhill Worley." (Send to Ranhill Worley)

LHDN CLERK:
"Ranhill... eja macam mana?" (err... How to spell Ranhill?)

TAXPAYER:
"R.. for Rumah... A for Ayam.. N for Nangka.... H for Holland .. I for itik... L for lain-lain...." (spelling)

LHDN CLERK:
"Ok.. nanti kami hantar ke alamat tu." (OK, we will send to that address...)

After waiting for a week, the form arrived - have a look at the address on the envelope!!!

Ayam Bandar

Maria baru call. Dia baca my LBP entry, and recommended Apple Cider with honey. Not instant relief, but in due time, katanya.

Yonne pun ada beritahu, since dia pun ada back-pain, he takes Hurix Ginseng Plus. And he swears by it.

Tapi yang sangat mengganggu aku la ni adalah hakikat bahawa the pain-killer shot I been taking for instant muscle relief has been steroid??!!! Maria la ni beritahu tadi. Arrrkkkk. How can I be so daft... ubat muscle memangla steroid!!! Baghalll.

Dah la aku ni mak tembun, amek lagi steroid kat area nu! Kecik-kecik dulu pun aku dah penuh steroid untuk asthma aku. Steroid steroid steroid. Baik aku join ofismet aku masuk Bina Badan (dia juara Bina Badan Bahagian Wilayah woo).

Mak aku selalu 'umpat' aku gini:
"...dia tu, bukannya gemuk apa. Gemuk ubat... macam Ayam Bandar...kikikiii..."

Dah, dah. Tak mboh amek shot shot dah. Kalau tak nanti lama-lama aku tukar jadik Ibu Ayam plak. Heish.
